With the relase of the new eldar codex i decided to give a list built purely out of formations a ago to see if it was any good. I had never done something like this before so it was quite odd being told what units i could and could not take. We played a mealstrom of war mission with dawn of war deployment.
Interesting read. It's good to see aspects doing cool stuff. I hope that people realize that the aspects are awesome now...and should be considered for top builds.
Nice batrep. Seeing the elysians is always a good day.
Your Elysian opponent learned a number of important lessons from this game.
+On the positive side that was smart of them to take first turn and hit the seer council before it could buff up. It is easy as a reserves force to get stuck in a loop of always taking second turn.
-Fire dragons are dangerous. Your unit had ~40% chance to explode any flyer in melta range. There is just no excuse to fly such an important unit within melta range of the dragons. Even before the new codex I had exploded or immobilized perhaps half a dozen flyers using fire dragons.
-Big units of drop sentinels are a liability. If your opponent had fielded them as 3 units of 1 sentinel they could have dropped in turn 1 and would have taken 3x the firepower to deal with.
+The sentry guns actually did a lot of work for him. Somewhat surprising but a pleasant surprise. Again though if they were split into 3 units of 1 they would have been harder to kill, done the same damage, and could be used to increase the number of combat drop units if needed.
Another note is your elysian opponent might want to think about switching his list up to plasma on the vets and perhaps DS the D-99 vets with a HF and flamer. Most importatntly though they should consider a 4x plasmagun command squad for their second detachment. That unit is brutal and could have put down most of the worst targets in the CWE list.
