Possessed Khorne Marine Covered in Spikes

Ok, I understand all you y'all will immediately say, "Choose what you want!" as it is obviously the most logical answer for a game about choice, painting, and fun. That being said I think I have a problem. Every Saturday I have gone to my local GW store played one 40k game then stared at the army books and battalions of Warhammer Fantasy with $100 in my pocket to purchase one of the Battalion Kits to get my army on the move. I have gone to the store for 4 months now and have still now picked an army. As you can see I am a "little" indecisive. In warhammer 40k I play the Khorne Daemonkin faction and since I'm creating my second army I want it to be differentiated from from them yet have some of the things I enjoyed too.
So based on these preferences what army do you think would be best for me?
Things I want Gameplay wise:
Powerful characters
A hoard based army
Some shooting (magical or physical)
Special rules that effect my whole army
MAGIC
Funny and hilarious things to be able to happen
Things I don't want:
Elite units to take priority (so no elves, but having some elite units would be good)
Not entirely melee based without anything else (ill take melee just want some magic with it or something)
Things I don't care about:
Good or Evil
Human or not human
Notes: Sorry If you guys are irritated by this thread just wanted you guys to post what army do you think would be best for me.

Wait for 9th edition in a couple of mothns and then choose.
Other than that, sounds like Orcs and Gobbos to me, though could also be Undead Legions. Skaven also qualify if you don't mind not having powerful characters in the traditional sense (since a fellblade warlord will make most characters think twice about rushing into melee).

I just narrowed it down a bunch to armies that I would like due to aesthetics. If you vote OAG please also state the runner up since while I understand that they fill my gameplay requirement they really are lacking for me in the lore and looks department.
P.S. Guy who voted for Ogre Kingdoms... I pitty da fool.

Everything you stated, except for the funny/silly magic effects, can be found with the Vampire Counts.

Ok y'all! Thanks so much! I'm going to see if I can win an ebay action for $1000 dollars of counts for $200, but if that fails I'll just get the battalion. Keep on voting though because I will only be able to pick them up on Saturday, so voting may change my mind. In the mean time I have a question. What are the color schemes for the different blood lines? Necrarchs in particular.

I'm going to suggest beastmen as with the new Legions of Chaos upgrade they have gotten MUCH better. They have shooting, they have hordes, they have magic. They have cool special rules. They have powerful characters (Doombull on flying carpet is funny as hell and ALSO pretty badass.) THey have magic & shooting with melee but the majority of fantasy is melee oriented. If you want shooting you need to go certain builds of elves, dwarves, tombkings or 40k.
I also need to warn you about VC. Don't start with them unless you're SURE you want to. I started with them & while I couldn't be happier it did cause some elarning issues. But when I started it was literally "Undead or nothing" for me. Be 100% SURE you want an undead army because:
1.) Your entire army is immune to psychology. This means you WILL NOT properly learn how to deal with things like cascading panic checks. You won't learn psychology well with an undead army and it's a major part of the game.
2.) You're unbreakable. This means you don't care if you lose a combat by 5, you stay. Again this stints your learning by teaching you bad habits (Well habits that are bad for anyone NOT undead)
3.) You're unstable. Who cares if you lose combat by 5 and lose 5 more skeletons? Not me! But again this mentality is UNDEAD ONLY.
4.) You can regrow losses. The reason unstable isn't so scary is you can regrow your losses. I expect to lose a lot of combats but I know I will win the grind since I replenish losses.
Growing INTO undead is much much easier than growing OUT OF undead. So unless you're SURE you want undead go elsewhere & learn the game 1st.
As for colour schemes there aren't much beyond "dirty & old" in the way of official schemes.
