I have been a long time admirer of Infinity but I had nowhere to play it so i never got into the game. However I have recently found a FLGS. They are predominately board and card game players, but there are a few tables for war games. The most common ones being played are Bolt action and Xwing. They have recently started getting into the re-release of Warzone from Prodos ( and the minis look good, but IRL look even better)

I am wanting to start getting people into the game at the store. I have a few questions.

1 - would operation ice storm be a good place to start for me to learn and then Demo it.
2 - i like the aesthetics for most of the factions, however its play style i prefer. I like to be able to play fast moving forces, that may struggle to take a hit but can combine well to deliver a hard punch. What faction/sub faction would people recommend I go for?

OI would be a great place because it's simplified and comes with just about everything you need.

Also, check out my history blog: Minimum Wage Historian, a fun place to check out history that often falls between the couch cushions.

As above O:IS is a great start as the Quick-Start Rule book that come with it is one of the best ways to demo the game. It will teach the core game, this is improtant, because while the core is pretty simple once learned it is not simple to learn if you try to learn everything at once.

As for what faction, depending on the units picked ANY faction can play the way you want. It is not untl the sectional that play-style start getting limited and even then the only one lacking their that I can think of is PanO NCA. So really it is about the faction you like the look of best.

Peter: As we all know, Christmas is that mystical time of year when the ghost of Jesus rises from the grave to feast on the flesh of the living! So we all sing Christmas Carols to lull him back to sleep.
Bob: Outrageous, How dare he say such blasphemy. I've got to do something.
Man #1: Bob, there's nothing you can do.
Bob: Well, I guess I'll just have to develop a sense of humor.

Definitely agree that O:I is a great place to start. It sounds like you are keen to get some demo games going and that is the most important thing really! I started on my own in the same way and now have 5-6 regular opponents, and a lot more who will play from time to time. I know there are other guys here that post on the board that are in the same situation.

Most FLGS owners will be open to stocking a new line if they know it will sell. If you can get even a couple of guys even to try the game with a starter pack, playing in the store and then pulling in others that will sell more in turn and then things will roll along from there. Really, the cheap buy-in price, freely available rules and the gorgeous minis (not to mention the rule mechanics) will sell the game for you, if you can get people to make that initial effort. Good luck in any case

For the second question as Noir says it's possible to play most factions with that style. You could try something like Japanese sectorial for Yu Jing; some fast moving infantry that are effective at close range, a range of bikers etc. But, I had a force of Aleph move across the board and hit me in turn 1 with drop troops and Ajax just yesterday (look that guy up!) so it's possible with most factions.
