Hi guys, I think I know the answer, but I've been wrong before, so I'd just thought I'd ask.

Are Objective Secured (i.e. those bought as Dedicated Transports) Landraiders still viable in today's age of plentiful D-weapons?

Context - Landraiders are pricey, I know, I know. However, with 7th ed where Troops Dedicated Transports counted as Objective Securing, they made for impressive AV 14 objective takers. There are a few armies that could take them as such, like Black Templar, Grey Knights, Deathwing, etc. However, since the early days of 7th, we now have a lot of D-weapon options that seem to make AV 14 irrelevant. Before, you had to take a Lord of War or something; now there are available for comparatively cheap with Imperial Knight Titans and even Eldar infantry that have D-weapons. It's not their fault, but it seems like this is the way new codices are headed.

Reason I Ask - I thought something like LRC Black Templars was a great idea to adapt to the 7th meta, and have been building/painting accordingly, but it looks like the AV 14 OS DT is already obsolete. What have your experiences been please?

The Wraithknight pretty much makes them obsolete wholesale. 1/5th chance every turn to one shot a LR with no saves. Otherwise 1.8Hp/Turn Averageif you're luck enough to not see 6s.

Before ranged D it was an option, now it's a depressing liability.

That and there seems to be more haywire getting thrown around than ever before as well.

I have to concur; against IKs, Destroyer weapons weren't big deal- they were limited to melee, and so required an IK to get really close to things.

Obviously whatever got that close tended to die very horrible, though also very fast, deaths... but IKs also tended to have better things to punch.

There is also the proliferation of Haywire firearms- DE have a few, Harlequins rely heavily on Haywire to deal with armor in any kind of capable way, and Skitarii can bring cheap Haywire on infantry as well.

Guys, thanks for your responses.

I was so focused on D weapons I suffered from tunnel vision; I neglected to see the proliferation of Haywire Grenades. I think you guys are spot on, thanks for that heads up.

Not to pile on the Craftworld Eldar codex negativity, but the Swooping Hawks had been my top-of-mind choice when it came to Haywire, and incidentally they too were significantly improved.

Ah well, back to the drawing board.
