So after having a bunch of Tau models sitting around for years I have finally made a start on painting them. I wanted to do something original in terms of colour scheme but that turned out horrible so I went with the good ol' weathered Farsight scheme

I have never done any real weathering effects before (and I have painted less then maybe a dozen models total) so this first XV8 was kind of a test piece. The rest of the army will maybe not have quite so much weathering on it.

I still need to finished off all the weapons and attachments but I like how it has turned out. Also photos are sadly from camera phone so doesn't really do it justice (colour is a bit off, blending is completely washed out and it makes the paint look like it has gone on really thick). Once I finish it properly I will get the full photo rig out to get some proper photos.

Well the XV8 is finished except for varnish and basing. I have started on my first group of 12 fire warriors now, base colours are almost all on and will start weathering and evening out a little of the blending next. Arms and other bits are still on the sprue.

One thing I'm missing is squad markings and this is mostly because I haven't found a good way of painting them neat enough yet over the blended surfaces.

Pictures (sorry still need to dig my decent camera out)

Have 2 more pics but need to resize them.

Fire warriors are almost done. Think I might need to paint the emblems on the sheilds and need to come up with a basing theme. Quite happy with how they turned out though.

Decided on basing scheme now so made up the bases for the firewarriors. Decided to go for a levelled city scene and having a lot of fun with it

Just waiting for the greenstuff to set then will get to painting it.

Talking of painting I think I'm going to add another highlight layer to the grey on the FW clothing.

Also I could really do with some feedback on painting the emblems on the FW shoulder pads and the little round bits on the ends of the guns. The ones on the shoulder pads really do need to be painted but I really don't know what colour to go with. I thought either a glowing green effect (though this may be a little too much) or the creamy colour that I used to do the bright bits on the XV88. Any ideas?

I do REALLY need to get my decent camera out to take some photos as the phone camera really doesn't do a good job.

Thank you very much, I'm still pretty new to painting so was really happy with how they are coming out. Just have a few finishing touches here and and they are done. I will get my camera out to get some proper photos over the weekend but a quick preview.

I haven't posted anything for awhile because I have been busy at work. The bigger reason though is that the Piranha I was painting was giving me problems and rather than just carry on and deal with it I procrastinated and just didn't do anything, I tend to do this a lot. However I pushed through and despite a multitude of things going wrong its not come out to bad. Still need some work to finish it off (and I have lost the pilots backpacks...) but its 95% there.

I might not be painting any tau for awhile as I got a whole bunch of malifaux stuff for my birthday recent and I want to concentrate on getting a good chunk of that finished off. I also started getting in a good collection of vallejo paints and they are definitely a game changer. Only problem is trying to buy good combinations of shades when you are buying online and cant actually see them.

Anyway here are some crappy phone photos

(PS I work in a school so after tomorrow have 6 weeks off, therefore I definitely* will get some decent photos taken in that time)
*maybe, I hope, probably not....

And the start of my Malifaux Neverborn Crew, Lilith.

I'm starting to get fairly good at painting red at least...

Really nice work. I like the 'dirty' look.

I'm just working on my Piranhas. Hopefully, I'll get the same awesome as you did. Keep up the good work!

Really digging the pattern you put on the heads of the fire warriors / shield etc. nice subtle addition that ties everything together and adds another element. Very cool!
