Hi all

Just painting up some tau and I wanted to know the purpose of the fire warror back pack, is it a fuel cell, hold kit etc. I not a tau player so have no clue.

Thanks guys.

I am not 100 percent certain but I think it provides limited life support. I know the helmets have air quality monitors so I only assume that the backpack could supply some amount of whatever tau breathe in. Other than that I doubt it is to power anything except maybe the hud display in the armor along with the sensor mentioned above. Their armor is lightweight and wouldn't need energy like power armor does. My vote goes life support/food.

Two spare magazines for pulse weapons are clearly visible on the backpack.

Tau strike me as pretty gear heavy troops, so I expect a lot of high tech and drone augmented versions of modern soldiering gear plus the usual rations, water and clean underwear.

There's probably a lot they DON'T carry, as Tau seem to have their gak together when it comes to logistics. Probably just ammo/power packs, and emergency equipment. For example, they almost certainly don't carry entrenching tools. That's drone work.

You forgot a couple cans of dip, proly like a 6 pack of Rip-Its, 550 cord, 100mph tape, extra batteries......more batteries........proly some more batteries......and then the special batteries for the new radio that has to have some new high speed light weight battery that will only charge the radio for 3 hours so even though the indevidual battery is lighter you are now carrying like 30 of them......

But since the Tau aren't really big on holding terrain, I don't see them bringing stuff to dig in or stay for extended periods of time in austere locations. So I would guess extra ammo, life support systems, commo equipment and proly some protine based food pouches....and batteries

I would argue that being able to dig in is still valuable, even if you don't plant to hold a strip of land forever. Otherwise i fully agree with you.

I would agree that it is extremely valuable. So maybe we will throw a light shovel in the bag too.

Anyone have a reference of a good book from the tau perspective that could shine some light on this?

Nah, they're camels, so that's probably internal.

It wouldn't be for vitals, because you can swap helmets for heads in the kit. It would be ammo, food and liquid.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

A portable kroot for close combat.

In all seriousness though, probably run of the mill soldier stuff, like, as previously mentioned, batteries, ammo, food and water, etc.

I don't think they're magazines, I think they're battery packs, with the tiny knobs underneath them being a light indicating the charge. Not sure what's "canon" really but I always liked to think of the Tau weapons as having near limitless ammunition but with the gun requiring power, so you'd swap out the battery now and then like a mag.

They are technically powercells, but I still think of them as magazines since they are what gives the Pulse Rifle the resources to shoot.

Typical soldier kit I imagine.

Rations for a period of time(a week or so), spare ammo, emergency communication equipment, maintenance kit for their weapons, and any personal items.

Functionally identical. When your gun shoots energy, its magazine is whatever holds that energy.

No. The best answer would be the latest issue of "Kroot Gone Wild- vol12 The greatest 'Goods' around"

I believe it's a back rub, where the male passes on his genes to the female via something on the palms of his hands, and then the eggs get coughed up
