So, I'm looking at running a wraith host formation as an Iyanden player. I'm looking at 2 units of guard with cannons and a unit with scythes. My knight will be stock as that's what I owned from 6th. Now the formation sits within a Windrider host. So I have 5 scatter lasers and 12 shuriken cannons for anti infantry along with a wave serpent. Add that to my 5 scythes, 10 cannons and 2 heavy cannons for anti tank/death star and I was wondering what people though I should do with the wraith Lord tax. My initial though was 2x bright lances and a glaive. (mostly modelled on a picture from the book) but I was curious as to what dakka though the best way to take these were now?

You sought to cower behind your walls, weakling? Instead, by the will of Khorne, you shall die behind them

Keep in mind you also have to run 2 more units of Wraithguard/blades for that to be a legal Wraithhost formation.

Brightlances are a decent option, though your D takes out vehicles more efficiently. Maybe try starcannons so that you have somethign with several shots at AP 2 to hit any term equivalents on the field.

Just my two cents.

How did you work that out? You need 3 units. I have 3 units.....

Any of the configurations could work depending on pts available. I really like the wraithlord in the wraith host formation in a craftworld warhost. Guaranteed 6" runs makes them vastly more useful.

I like the double shucannons and double flamers as it is cheap and lets me take more stuff. The double brightlance or double scatter laser options could also be good to open transports so you can get to the units inside. I have also been considering the EML on him for the skyfire and flexibility but IMO it is just too expensive for the damage.

Either way I like the sword option as it is very helpful to reroll a missed attack when you have so few attacks.

I was very tempted by starcannons, but I have a lot of strength 6 already. My issue was ranged AT. The knight is 36" range, the guard are maximum 12". I thought the lances as well as the 6" run gives me the ability to hit 2-3 armoured targets from a greater range. Arguably from turn one.

Austin, Texas.

100% run them bare bones with the sword.
Tried and tested and it works so much better than any sort of ranged fire power. with Brightlances, one always misses and the second one never hurts it, or their cover save passes. Other weapons just dont do enough to justify taking them, especially when you can run the wraith lords 6" every turn, making it almost a 12" move per turn.

I do drugs.
Mostly Plastic Crack, but I do dabble in Cardboard Cocaine.

Bright Lances.
And model the lances onto the fore arms so he looks like a baby Wraith Knight.

Then put a diaper on him.

Hopefully you're opponent will be laughing so hard he'll make some sort of mistake, actually making your Wraith Lord useful.

I'm a fan of Brightlances.

Brightlances are most useful early game for a possible nasty pen on something big, early. But not reliablely removing vehicles.

Much like Guardians, I like to have him pull BL potshot duty until the wrong thing makes the mistake of getting too close. A pair of Brightlances on a durable-ish target is a really nice threat.

(Might help that, in my last game with him, he popped the LR with Kharn, being the first unit I shot that game. Unlikely, but can have big game-changing effects T1/2)

Take him barebones with dual flamers. The 6" run is pretty huge. Consider that your wraithlord will be moving as fast as your Wraithknight, assuming that the wraithknight shoots. Take the glaive as well, but only if you have the spare 5 points. S9 over S8 doesnt really mean too much.

The Wraith Knight will also have battle focus, moving 18" (ignoring the slowing effect of terrain), and firing.

it depends on the rest of your list. If your 2 wraithguard units are on foot, the dual brightlances gives you some needed range alongside the knight. If all wraith troops are in transports, I'd run him bare with the sword and dual flamers.

Forgot about battle focus. I still think there are much better platforms for heavy weapons in the Eldar dex though. I would only take some if all of my other units were maxxed out on them.
