How do low tier armies like Orks and Dark Eldar survive in 40k against Eldar or Necrons?

orks just one two fairly big tournaments broad side bash and Storm of Silence.
their was plenty of the new eldar at Storm of Silence

It's a myth the orks are a bottom tier army.

most of the good lists have tank busters and bikes with lots of power claws.
wraith kights hate nobs with power klaws

Ugh I hate when people misunderstand Swiss tournaments.

Ok first off there were 5 eldar out of 56 there. (Pretty low attendance for eldar actually, wow.)

Now looking at the bonus points, NONE of them made it two full rounds without taking a loss. Chuck's orks however, have 10 bonus points, which means he won 5 rounds in a row.

Now in Swiss, you get matched up against people with similar pairings. That means that he had a 8.9% chance of playing against eldar on round 1, and around 15% in round 2. In round 3 and beyond, he literally could not get paired against an eldar from this point on as long as he didn't lose. Now I don't know if he did or didn't have to play against an eldar player, but the odds say he almost certainly didn't.

Swiss isn't round robin. The strongest list that would beat more of the rest than any other list doesn't always win. You just have to beat say...6 random dudes in a 6 round tourney. Sometimes you just get lucky and bulldoze over weaker lists while avoiding your predators like that ork guy did. Same thing has happened to magic pro tour tourneys where some builds avoided all their auto-loss matchups and went all the way like they made a bargain with the devil. (And similar decks ran by others got caught in those bad matchups and got beheaded.)

That list looks pretty strong. 5 units of Warbikes with painboy, lucky stick, PKs and Snarf. Then add in 5 trukk loads of tankbustas means a fast, heavy hitting army with lots of manoeuvrability that presents a lot of priority targets. and will take down tanks, bosses, monstrous creatures and Wraithknights like they weren't even there.
2 units of grots to scamper onto objectives and get in the way of truly lethal stuff and you have a pretty effective TAC army.

It's a damn good Ork army. Expensive though and requires a Forgeworld Warboss (we don't allow FW locally).

Freakshow lists have no trouble with Necrons or Eldar. Dark Eldar have difficult matchups, but these two aren't it. In my experience we struggle more against certain Guard builds than Necrons or Eldar.

I used to understand the FW bans, but ever since Imperial Knights, Formations, and the now criminally OP addition of the Eldar craftworlds codex, I just don't see what people's fears are with allowing Forgeworld into their games. DocDoom, do you think you're local group would ever revisit their opinion of FW units, or is it too ingrained at this point?

As for the topic at hand...Orks can actually fight fire with fire. The Ork Stompa is pretty great, even if it is 2 1/2 times more expensive than a Wraithknight. It can house shooting units such as Tank Bustas or Lootas (who can shoot out of the fire ports), have it's 12 hull points repaired by meks who are hanging out inside as well, and can put out a lot of shooting on top of it's STR D assault and stomp. Just keep it from being jacked up by deep striking D-Scythes...

+1 niv mizzit.

You didn't mention Necron % at the thought, but honestly I've never had problems beating Necron with Orcs. Site I've lost a couple games to lucky dice rolls or great players, but they no longer back up out of charge range when we shoot them... So I call it a win.
