My homebrew regiment that I've been working on for a while: The planet of Bestella is a pleasure world full of Beautiful cities and freezing forests. It's sister planet is a freezing hive world that has fallen into rebellion. The planet fell in a year except for an island that is constantly harassed by the rebels. Both beaches are fortified with trench lines and pill boxes. When imperial troops break through they operate within the cities. Regular troops are called dog faces, and scions crack troops. The PDF refused to take reinforcements deeming it "un-honorable". They are equipped with that to a cadian regiment except they wear a gas mask and a ushanka, some wear helmets if they can afford them; crack troops are known for their iconic pickelhaube. The regimental color is purple (the color of nobility). The models wear dawnstone grey fatigues, bane blade brown armor, brown leather gloves and boots, and purple mask lenses. Since they spend months to years in the cities I was thinking of modeling dead rats (for food) onto their belts, also giving sergeants improvised weapons (clubs). What do you think I should name the sister planet, why did the planet rebel, and general thoughts? Cheers

Not sure what to call the sister planet, I'm terrible at coming up with good names. As for why they rebelled, it could be a chaos incursion, genestealer cult, maybe they got tired of the opressiveness of the IoM

Honestly it seemed a bit run of the mill.

The dog-faces likely indicates a culture where beardiness or at least facial hair is highly priced. Martial pride also seems present and honour is a thing to take really seriously.

The rat-food thing you can like adopt from the Fallout-universe.

What about doctrine and fighting-style of the army? They seem for me like you want a mix of Cadia and Krieg.

I was thinking of dog faces because of the gas masks http://www.pig-iron-productions.com/hd11-kolony-militia-winter-head-sprues-p-18.html and I think I'm doing a mix of Soviet and Nazi forces in Stalingrad. I'm open about my crack troops ww1 feel and the honor parts.

I was thinking that the planet sister planet was tired of Bestella walking all over the planet, same with the IoM. I'm also open about the island.

A pleasure world full of freezing forests? Doesn't sound right to me.
And why do they need to wear gas masks? That sounds more like a world with heavy polution or otherwise unbreathable atmosphere. Maybe change it to an industrial world of some kind?
I also do not entirely understand the circumstances. Are they surrounded on an island or fighting in cities?

I was thinking because the rebels use lots of gasses and how dusty a bombed city could be. I'll probably drop the island idea, also how could I change the atmosphere for the better?

I would make the pleasure world a tropical paradise. When you think of a pleasure world, think "dream vacation destination" but for an entire planet. Forget the freezing temperatures.

Of course, now that the planet's been ravaged by war (and possibly chemical/nuclear weapons, it could very well have freezing temperatures and toxic, polluted air.

As for why the neighboring world rebelled, with this being a pleasure world (the getaway spot of the wealthy and powerful) and the neighboring world being a hive world (hellish environment, overcrowded, mostly impoverished), class warfare seems like the most obvious source of rebellion. The masses of hive worlders barely eeking out a living are sick of living in the shadow of such wealth and splendor, and have decided to change the status quo, violently. Of course, it would be perfectly possible for Chaos cults, Eldar, or Tau to be stirring up the unrest and maneuvering the rebellion to their own ends, if you want to tie it in with another army.

I was thinking Chaos was behind the rebellion. They were sick of the upper classes looking down on them. The lower class somehow chemically sabotaged the planet making it a freezing hell hole constantly at war with the lower classes. They engage in ambush and guerrilla warfare. Does this sound better?

Sounds like a nice place for nurgle, with chemical warfare and despair and whatnot. Which makes this interesting to me in particular, as Nurgle is my personal favorite chaos god. This does seem more realistic to 40k.

I'm not sure about nurgle. Is there a way to have Chaos involved without any daemons or plague zombies?

Yeah, it could just be a cult full of lunatics or something. Daemons and the like are pretty hard core endgame chaos. If you don't want to take that route, you don't have to.

Cool, I like the meat grinder, stalemate deal. How does everyone think of the regiment?

Slaanesh could have been behind the constitution of a Pleasure Cult in your upper classes, which eventually took over your planets.

You can also have a pleasure world with freezing climate if Imperial Nobility around like skiing. Everything is possible in 40k.

I'd suggest that a frozen planet could still be a paradise world. It doesn't have to be a tropical paradise.

Your planet could be a world dedicated to Eco-tourism, winter sports, hunting native arctic fauna or even a world where indoor pursuits (Casinos, brothels, amusement parks) are the focus. It could even be an important shrine to the Ecclesiarchy that provides the draw.

If you want to stick with the pleasure world angle you should outline the draw in some detail. What brings people wealthy enough to book passage to your planet? What happened to make the atmosphere toxic, or was it always that way? If it was always that way the draw would have to be pretty darned spectacular.

Then what happened when war came to the world? Did the fauna run amok or get eradicated, or are they still there? Did the natural wonders/casinos/pleasure parks get obliterated? It's even possible to have an Imperial shrine that still gets pilgrims despite being a war zone, especially if it's an important site for some very popular Saint.

My two cents, for your consideration.

A frozen paradise world known for it's winter attractions, lodges, brothels, casinos, and exotic meats from the animals that roam on the planet. Dutov is a toxic hive world where the filth from Bestella is dumped. Dutov's main industry is making the materials needed for Bestella's patrons. They were sick of being walked on and rebelled with support of their own PDF. Bestella's PDF has to wear gas masks when on Dutov and Dutov has been turned into an endless warzone. Bestella's citizenry has started mass drafts to combat the huge numbers of the rebellion. The tactics are infantry heavy with armored support, no fliers or rough riders; and bane wolves and sentinels are fluffy. The fighting has also started happening on Bestella where cities are under siege. Both sides are fighting a war of attrition inside the cities, and both sides also heavily use chemical warfare (hence the gas masks). Does this have a good catch?

Yep. It'd be Planet: Ski Resort.

It doesn't have to be Hawaii to be a paradise, there's plenty of winter fun to be had so long as it doesn't get *too* cold or the snows *too* harsh. A winter planet that maintains "perfect powder" could be classified as a paradise world... especially if it warmed near the equator and became at least sub-tropical and pleasant.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

If they come from Nob houses why would they used improvised weapons, I would go with something more unique to their culture like sickle swords or scimitar
