Hey All,

For my current project I am building an ork proxy for a battlewagon. I have seen some larger monowheel ideas in the past and always thought, how the hell does that thing steer it'self? While the answer is typically "because it's orks!" I decided to add a little more logic into the mix... sort of. The area in the back will have rutter that will dig into the ground while the plow/ram in the front has been fitted with hydraulics to help guide the direction of the vehicle. The unattached dome will be placed on the side acting as a cockpit cover with the ork pilot inside. once finished, I plan to angle the wheel on a custom base at an angle to show it in mid turn with dirt being thrown all over the place form the rudder and plow.

A few other ideas I have is to add some more bulk to the top for a large cannon turret from a leman russ or the kannon from the top of a battlewagon. I am also thinking that with the nautical idea of the rudder in the back, I could add some torpedos somewhere with drill heads allowing them to bore through the ground to their target.

Hope you enjoy, any ideas would be welcomed and appreciated!

I could see it with wheelie-bars in back like a drag car (only if you're going to paint it red, though).

Love it!

That's not a bad idea! Maybe i'll add some trukk wheels in the back for extra stability. No go on the red paint job though, most of my orks are blue and yellow. Kind of a deathskulls hybrid thing.

Quick update. I got really impatient and did a quick base / dry brush to get a better idea of what everything would look like. Still have lots of rivits to add along with the rudder in the back.

Love it,

Could you explain how you built the trigun? how do you create the loop that holds all 3?
I really like the plow steering idea, although in my opinion i'd run that as a grot mega tank! its soo damn grotty!

Also what is the clear ball thingy?

Thanks for the kind words!

Ok forgive my microsoft paint abilities, but This is the breakdown on the Trigun. For the loop that holds all three, I just cut out a circle from a sheet of styrene (Usually get this from local retailers as they us it for their signage. I suggest Phone retailers as they have massive marketing that they switch out fairly often. One of these will last you a very long time)

Once I have my circles cut out I just drill three holes at the same gauge as the styrene tubes and simply slip them right over. For this one in particular I filed down one of the circles to better fit for 3 barrels. If I did 4 barrels I probably would have just left it as a circle.

The clear ball is actually the cockpit of the vehicle. If you look closely you can see the ork driving inside. This is much more apparent in person as the camera picks up a lot of glair. These are actually just clear spherical ornaments I found at Hobby lobby. They re made to snap together which is great since they are already cut in half! The Hull surrounding the wheel is also made of a larger version of these ornaments.

Started a rust base so I can try out that salt weathering technique. Rust is not one of my strong points so any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks! I used an airbrush for the rust and from afar, I think it looks alright, but I really want to add some texture for the rust. maybe i'll see if I can find some weathering pigment or something.

Trying some different Rust techniques. A little worried the "drippy" rust on the back is reading as more of a wood pattern. Any feedback would be appreciated!

really enjoy the rust effect. As for the fin, I think the rust there is fantastic, the colour gradients across the whole model really bring it to life.

Care to share your technique? I assume its mostly airbrushed with added detail? Also you mentioned that this was going to be for the salt technique, does that mean you plan to spray over it?Currently I love how rusty it is, how much rust are you going to cover up?

I based it with my airbrush in browns moving up to orange / yellow. After that I used the salt weathering technique on the bottom and top of the spherical hull pieces. I also used a sponge brush to give a chipped effect and finished up with some rust pigment to give the raised gritty look. lots of different rust techniques on this one but I figure it workes with orks as they probably got the metal from various conditions / sources.

More pics on the showcase thread!
