Hey everyone! As a tyranid player myself, I was wondering if they still earn a spot in tournements? These days, everyone is talking about eldar, necrons and spacewolf. Are there any ways that tyranid can beat them? According to myself, even if you play a lot of flyrant, it still doesnt look good... Am i wrong? What list would you use to beat them? What is the strengh of tyranid's army? Lets talk about it !

Yes, we have a smei-proffesional Nid guy in my area. Against most space marine (vanillia or otherwise) list I've never seen him lose. Multi-formation Imperium thats a different story, he has had trouble with a few min/max formations and allies. As for Necrons he stated he had no worries about the new dex, but he did admit in the hands of a skilled player it could be deadly. Lastly, he rolled his eyes at the Eldar codex and said it probably wouldnt be a good match up, and against a skilled player winning would be a difficult.

As with anything it would come down to the particular build of the army you have and what you face, but in terms of Eldar they have alot of postives going for them right now, I think you could beat them in fun causal games. lists like highlanders etc. should be fun match-ups, but tourny lists you may see alot of str 6 dakka spam and D-weapons to back that up.

Seen a few competitive matchups lately involving nids.

Crons can be interesting matches, as a lot of the nid damage output also comes in melee with the threat of a sweeping advance, the cron player has to keep his 1 attack guys out of melee while guarding with wraiths, lyches, scarabs etc. typically if you don't see some turn 3-4 sweeping advances, the crons have won.

Eldar beat them down like it's just another day at the job. Haven't seen a list even come close to having a hard time.

Most definitely they're competitive. A Tyranid army won the Las Vegas Open not too long ago - Lictors, Hive Tyrants, Mucolids, and Mawlocs, if memory serves.

7th edition 40k is a lot like BDSM these days. Only play with people you know and develop a safe word for when things get too intense. And It doesn't hurt to be a sadist or masochist as well.

Competitive, but somewhat mono-build.

Also, check out my history blog: Minimum Wage Historian, a fun place to check out history that often falls between the couch cushions.

25 ITC events this season so far. Tau have at least (probably) hit the good prize support in 7 of them (counting the allied one, which was of course a firebase formation.)

Their top placing ranks are: (after slash is how many players present)
3rd/16, 3rd/20, 1st/12, 2nd/23, 2nd and 3rd/20, ally 1st/30, 1st/45.

That's not all that shabby. More often than every 4 tourneys a tau gets some prize support? Yeah not too bad.
Compare that to my boys in red, where me and one other guy in Canada are fighting over top blood angel rank in the ITC just because we both ACTUALLY managed to place THIRD, ONCE. In BA, that is enough to hurl you to the front of the pack. (Which is saddening.)

Also of note is that tau aren't all that popular. 5 of the 25 have zero tau players, and most only have one or two. It's definitely understandable that they don't rank higher more often with that low amount of exposure.

Extra note: the ITC overall champ at the end of the 2014 season was a tau player.

It really depends alot on your meta. Tournaments and local games are two completely different monsters after all so I'm honestly not sure what would be competative for you.

My nids do alright, not fantastic but I play alot of mech heavy armies. The biggest hurdle is we really need spam to be effective as so many units in the codex are just not worth their points.

Then you get the fun of being called a cheesey netlister whe you run two flyrants and a haruspex in the same army...

Anyway, yes we can be competative, but be ready t shovel down that plate of spam to do it.
