In the fluff they were the ones keeping their gear in shape. Dark mechanicum would be fun. Also chaos guard. Something to throw non IoM or eldar/necrons a bone.

Dark mechanicum would be fun, although doubtful we will see a release any time soon.

I actually meant just taking the mechanicum out now and adding it to chaos allies matrix and calling it dark mechanicum when used with them.

Sadly, I wouldn't expect that. GW wants you to Forge the Narrative™, so they'd need to launch a Dark Mechanicus book for that sole purpose - Mechanicus (as it is now) is only for Imperials!

It really wouldn't be hard for them to have a notation in the Chaos codex saying you can pick allies from IoM codices and count them as heretics or what not.

The Dark Mechanicus is a completely different beast to the loyal Adeptus Mechanicus. The defiler, Heldrake, Maulerfiend and Forgefiend are the kind of things the Dark Mechanicus produce.

I've seen this pop up a little the past few weeks since AdMech came out.

Like ImAGeek said, they are VERY different organisations. Among other things, the Dark Mechanicum are dealing with bio-engineering. Something that is strictly forbidden to the Ad Mech.

The Dark Mechanicum is much more different from the Ad Mech than the Chaos Space Marines are from the Space Marines.

That said, Forge The Narrative harder and you can make it happen just fine. Run the Space Marines Codex for your Chaos Space Marines and proxy something nasty-looking for your Ad Mech, and you're golden.

Onager Dunecrawlers can get IWND with an item, which is one of those rules you get a lot on dark mechanicum creatures. Would be pretty cool to proxy them as some lumbering four legged monsters with cannons grafted into its skin.

To be fair, using the admech codex for dark mechanicus would be fine even with the CtA allies level - who trusts anyone else in the eye of terror!

Far easier to keep an eye on the techies in the shop then on the battlefield when they are armed to the teeth!

Well recently there was whole influx of new gear.

Dark mech is not only about demon engines, it's about using xeno technologies and genetic manipulations, as well it's about protecting against warp.

It's very disappointing that Chaos Knights are a FW thing. I was really hoping GW would get around to giving CSM a proper super heavy type option that wasn't gak. We generally don't allow FW stuff in my group.
