As the title says, I am curious about using a dragon with my chaos army. I just got the DE black dragon kit and I can't wait to put it together. Now, i'm still pretty new to fantasy, and honestly I just wanted the dragon because well...its a dragon. My plans are to run a chaos sorcerer lord on the back of the dragon. (actually going to be a sorceress) What would be a good gear selection and which lore should I focus on to make the most of it? Or should I run the dragon as Galrauch?

Dragons are primarily combat beasts, which is at odds with what a Sorcerer wants to do. Sorcerers usually want to stay at a reasonable range and cast spells without interruption, having a Dragon that wants to charge into combat is a little counter active. But if your mind is set I'd suggest either Slaanesh or Nurgle or Death, because both Slaanesh and Nurgle are apt to help you when you eventually make combat and Death, as a close ranged sniper spell lore would make great use of the Flying nature of the Dragon.

However I'd usually suggest kitting out a Cheap Combat Hero to ride the Dragon. Usually with little more then an Enchanted Shield to deflect the first cannon ball and a Ward save to give him a chance against the second. Remember, you're on a Chaos Dragon, what i believe to be stat-wise the second best Dragon in the game, your hero doesn't have to be overly killy because the Dragon itself is.

Got it. I'm sort of running a duo of tooled out lords. One is my jugger lord and the other is my sorceress on the dragon. I'm pretty excited to test it out at 2.5k which seems to be the normal in my area. A lot of heavy hitting units, halberding warriors, blood crushers and a unit of 10 khorne knights with enscrolled weapons.

Sorceress on the dragon is actually pretty cool, especially in a comped environment. I've seen them done well with a tzeentch wizard on top with a 1+3++. It's a cool points denial tool, since you don't give up points for the dragon until you kill the mage and 1+3++ is really hard to chew through.

Mostly used to keep the mage mobile, and throw into a flank in a pinch to support. If you have an infantry unit sitting around then you can always throw the sorceror in there should the dragon ever get punked out by cannons.

I'd probably do Sword of Might, dispel scroll, charmed shield, talisman of preservation, mark of tzeentch, level 4, and Third Eye of Tzeentch. Alternatively you could drop the charmed shield and go Sword of Antiheroes. Doing another breath weapon attack might be cool as well.

I have a lot of fun using Lore of Undeath on my Tzeentch Sorcerer Lord, disking about and dropping little bits of undeath all over the place.

1. You can actually hit with Hand of Dust, and build counters.
2. You move fast enough to scream at people and build counters.
3. Warriors don't have much in the way of cheap infantry, so summoning zombies to hold up the other guys while your heavy hitters come around is pretty awesome.

I imagine you could play a black dragon pretty much the same way!
