Good Lord whats going on here?
I still think it looks quite appealing. I just hope the cheese is kept to a minimum.

Also wtf are those spider terminators?

To me, it seems as if they took every major scene from all previous films in the series, and every one-liner, quip and quote, and simply refilmed them, patching them together at random.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

I do like the idea of them making a movie that, basically, has to deal with what happens when various terminators and people go back in time to various points in history to prevent each other from preventing the future from happening. It's like all of the different futures branch out of the same past, so all of their attempts to change things are going into the same timeline in their collective past. Kind if reminds me of the Bill & Ted movies where they get out of a jam by talking through what they would do in the future to travel back in time to get themselves out of that jam.

One chants out between two worlds: Fire, walk with me."

I pride myself in taking a punch and I'll gladly take another because I choose to live my life in the company of Gandhi and King. My concerns are global. I reject absolutely revenge, aggression, and retaliation. The foundation of such a method... is love. I love you Sheriff Truman." - Twin Peaks

Weren't we already discussing all of this in a different Terminator thread already?

Now admittedly, I can't locate that thread but still...

Sorry Alpharius. A T-9000 that looked like a T-2000 that looked like John Connor's cousin went back in time and killed that thread a few days ago or 20 years from now.

I can totally get behind the idea of John Connor as a robot though- what better way to make sure you win, than give humanity a red herring of last hope to waste all their resources on?

For the love of god, can movies please stop self-referencing themselves all the time and just take 'em seriously? I cringed at "I'll be back.". Overall...hm. Medium excitement. Plot flat as usual. Interested in seeing the terminator fight dragons.

Stupid name and an even more daft trailer. I mean seriously, Gen-I-Sys? WTF is wrong with plain old Genesis?!

So is this film a reboot a la Star Trek (2009), or should I watch the previous films first in order to understand what's going on?

You probably don't HAVE to watch the other films, but you probably should!

You can just watch TERMINATOR and TERMINATOR 2 from the looks of it - never mind the fact that they're the best two anyway.

Just be forewarned - the effects are very much a product of their times!

Of course John Conner is a liquid metal man, it's the only way he's had 4 different faces!

I too find the state of this franchise utterly perplexing at this point, but I will be watching it. At least the last one moved it up to the war with the machines. Now we're back where we started but 20 years later but Arnie Terminators is older but Sarah Conner is Younger? All of this is irrelevant if Arnie has a suitably cool trademark weapon.

Arnie needs a Vickers Machine gun like in the odd Sheriff film he made not long ago to really make this one zing. I fear I may be disappointed.

Yeah they did. The T1000 still looks like mercury. And that's what they were going for.

I think the problem I have with this is the appearance of John Connor. Hear me out. In the previous films, as an adult, he still had a clean cut, all-American face: no damage, straight hair, strong jaw....now he's got curly hair, damaged face...nothing like what he originally looked like. He was a sign of hope in the previous films. Unmarked, untainted. Now he's damaged-he's not a visual beacon anymore. It's like they worked hard to make him look like he hasn't been damaged or tainted by the war. And now he is. Just feels like all the hard work making him shine has been undone. Idk. Maybe it's just me. But the actor choice and facial features feel wrong.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

I think he was scarred up in the T3 in the one scene from the future. But I can't keep 30 years of Terminator films straight Especially if I've only seen it once (looking at you T3 and Salvation).

I for one was pissed when I saw this trailer. You should never reveal that much of the plot in a trailer.

That's why I put the warning.
But that seems to be the thing now right?
look at jurassic world, I mean they spoiled that the Dino is intelligent.
I blame the Internet tbh. If the trailers do the get the news out, the Internet will.

This movie looks great... If knowing a spoiler ruins the movie, it wasn't a good plot anyways. It is the journey, not the destination. That is why M. night shamalan movies are awful as once you know the plot, the movie is pointless.

Good movies, are fun to watch and enjoyable even if you know the plot. And I am sure there is so much more to unveil, I don't see a problem with them leaking a bit about John Connor. It seems like the best way to end the war would be to combine the two sides into one race. Neat take on it to me.

It was ruined for me when I saw Avengers: Age of Ultron so don't worry about this thread ruining it for me.

I swear I think I am going to start going to the movies early to get a good seat and play some stupid game on my phone with headphones on from now on.

Went and saw this today. I kinda enjoyed it up until the last quarter - the attack on Cyberdyne was very ho hum set piece finale stuff.
Connor and Arnie were actually pretty watchable in it, Reece definitley less so and Sarah unfortunately didnt cut it for me at all - neither did their chemistry.
If you're hoping for something as great as #1 and 2 forget it but it was much better than the trainwrecks of 3/4.
A good cinema action romp and the plot wasnt too bad to be fair. The music however was woeful, all crescendo building big strings stuff - very tedious. And no Brad Fiedel intro at all :(

Went in with the lowest of expectations for this film. Better than I thought. Much better. No where as good as T1 or T2 but way better than rise of the machines and Salvation though not a difficult mountain to climb for the last 2.

Emilia Clarke's acting hurt it the most IMO outside not the greatest dialog then again, Terminator is not exactly know for that.

Can't help but feel most of the bad reviews are from wikipedia pseudo-intellectuals down rating because the film doesn't have some deep meaning to it or a political message.

Epic film? No.

Fun and entertaining? yes.

This is the first film I left the cinema early from.

I would not recommend this movie.

When are they gonna give us a real terminator movie about the human resistance fighting guerilla warfare against Sky Net? None of this fleets of helicopters and madd attack wave nonsense. So much potential for this movie and they wasted the last 3 opportunities.

The strange thing is, that it did albeit rather glossily, try and touch on the prevelance of technology and absolute reliance on it with the Genisys software angle. The scene in the hospital where they pan around and literally everyone is "hooked up" to a mobile device etc.
Granted it was hardly very deep but it was present as an idea.

And I suppose as most of the films do touch upon fate VS free will, taking control of ones life etc etc.

Alright Im grasping here

Why did you hate it so much swas? It was never going to be a 1/2 classic but it was fun and watchable imo.

Aside from Arnold I could not get past how awkward the conversations were especially in the intro. You know in Starwars when we never see Anakin and Obi become best mates, so they throw in a few sentences in the beginning to try show how close they became? This movie does that in the beginning with really odd conversations and from there on it didn't feel like a serious movie at all. Heaps of one liners and forced conflict and just felt like a silly movie.

Arnold and the Cop are the only characters that felt human despite Arnold being a robot.

I don't understand why they had to go back and change the past (and ultimately the entire series) with a weak movie, when instead they could progress the story. Did anyone actually want to see them go back in time and change it all up?

I don't know. I will admit I have cranky old man syndrome when it comes to movies though.

Now that would be a good movie. Make Platoon fighting the robots from the VC perspective. Yes.
