On an Express Elevator to Hell!!

Hey guys,

Played an ITS tournament over the weekend with my Qapu Khalqi, had a real baptism of fire! Of three games I had one crushing defeat, one solid defeat and a hard-fought draw as the final game of the day. Great fun, but after playing a lot in a small group (and against the same guys constantly) it made me realise just how razor sharp both the armies and the minds were of players on the ITS circuit.

One thing that cost me big-time was my inability to take out camo individuals; namely TO units and ODD. One mission I was completely destroyed by a TO sniper (took out 6-7 of a 13-strong army). Another mission I couldn't knock a ODD wearing unit off an objective, which cost me the game. In both cases I was having to hit them at range with what often amounted to a -9 or even -12 modifier - bad odds!

So what are people's thoughts on a QK unit that I could use to even those odds? (Or even a general Haqqislam list?) MSV? Drop troops? My own TO? Would be very grateful for any thoughts on tactics!

Well, Djambazans are an option, droping one (or three) Yuan Yuans on his face is another option, the best against to-hit MODs are either MSV (or CC) to ignore them, having enough MODs to counter it or just ignoring the rolls and shooting them with a flamer/chain.

Aldo covered it. I find direct and indirect template weapons to be the best. Grenades (of all types) from higher ground, light shotguns, mines that stall their advancement range from decent to great.

Don't be afraid to put a fair number of your models in total cover or perhaps in prone state, rather than partial cover. ITS tends to favour scoring objectives not killing models. However it's always nice to bleed the opponent out of his orders. Especially, if he's forced to dodge rather than hitting on 2-3 or simply denied to shot back at all.

Thanks for the comments guys.

The difficulty I had in both games was in simply getting close enough to the camo/cover trooper to use a template weapon. In one game, a couple of Sekban tried to get close enough to use their colt pistols but got killed for the trouble.

I wonder if Yuan Yuan armed with chain rifles might be one option? Perhaps also a Djanbazan sniper used just for this purpose? Although, I've heard there might be a resculpt of them at some point? (So maybe not worth getting the existing miniature!)
