I'm planning to continue an idea I had years ago, to make a Mad Max style 40K army. Catachans seem like the best choice of models to use as a base for my conversions.

So off to the GW website I went to check out the options before I ventured across to my discount website of choice to actually buy the models.
Unfortunately several catachan boxed sets are out of stock on the GW site, on the discount site they're not even advertising anything catachan!

Have I missed something?

Are they re-releasing or scrapping them? Or am I reading too much in to this?

Catachans aren't big sellers, so most non-GW shops won't sell 'em (hell they don't in their own brick-and-mortar stores.) Currently the only out of stock kit on the UK site is the command squad, which I doubt they'll scrap.

There are several out of stock kits at the moment; Command Squad, Heavy Weapon Squad and Defence Force.

I hope your right, I have emailed my usual dealer. Hopefully they will come through with more of the good stuff before I get the shakes.

They are older and have gone web exclusive. A pain, I know. I had been planning on using them and some Marauders for a Chaos Guard army.

I'm glad that Games Workshop knows that the catachans are suffering from their age. That repackaging that they gave them can't save them from their derpier look as one of GW's first plastic kits. All that said, I think this is a good thing because the first step to fixing any problem is being aware that you have one. Maybe next release we'll get new Catachans. Then maybe the fact that I just rubbed salt in all of your wounds will have been made worth it...

I reckon they simply will forget they exist and just have Cadians over the next few years.

I would not be surprised if GW scrap them in favor of a whole cadian range. As it has been said previously, Catachans are not great sellers, they look silly and sadly, GW is not advocating regimental diversity in IG range... =/

I hope it would not happen for the sake of plurality, albeit I hate catachans.

The Catachan range is rather old. If they don't get a supplement or new models within the next 2 years expect them to be squatted.

Maybe its a sign that the guard are going to get a full overhaul. While the Cadians are nice and still hold up, they are pretty old in comparison to some of the newer models out there. Fingers crossed that will get a new line of Guard minis and even a new codex which will (hopefully, though it won't take much) be an improvement over the current! And actual Rough Rider models for once... though mine do draw an audience every time I pull them out.

I think I can honestly say you're the first person I've ever seen actually seriously interested in buying Catachan models

And a better statline too, I want some space knights!
