I do and don't play imperial guard but I am slowly growing some tanks in my army.
I have three leman russ, a basilisk, a hydra tank and a bunch of guys. I am in the middle of building a manticore / deathstrike tank. Which do you think is better for both style wise and rules?
I want something that will look the coolest when fully done and still be useful when on the table against pretty much anything. What do you guys think is the best option?

The death strike is a tank that should and doesn't have strength D.
The manticore is actually semi reliable but compared to other alternatives is criminally overpriced.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"
"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"
"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"
"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!" |

The Manticore is somewhat usable but rather expensive. Great anti-Necron unit however. Medicore, but usable.
The Deathstrike is something that really should be an Apocalypse unit with a D warhead or simply be a mission objective or the like.
As is, it cannot fire turn 1, the turn when you need/want it most. This gives an opponent ample time to kill it. It may not even fire turn 2 or later. Add to that that it's just a single shot, and it's just rather pointless.
If it could fire turn 1, it would be useful and you'd see them run semi-consistently, even with only a single shot. The forced variability in when it can fire simply destroys the functionality of the unit.

New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!
The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts. |

Manticore any day of the week, when you really have to lay down some hurt on Tau or Necrons, its always a decent choice, pricey at that, but Deathstrike are just so unreliable and random for when they fire that they hardly seem worth it at all.

Plus with a Prescinced Manticore that has rolled well on it's number of shots you can walk the Barrage to nearby targets denying them jink or gtg saves as they are not the original target.

You shouldn't be worried about the one bullet with your name on it, Boldric. You should be worried about the ones labelled "to whom it may concern"-from Blackadder goes Forth!

Deathstrike, all day, everyday. It's the best Ork weapon the Guard can ever have.
