I'm probably wrong, but I thought it was illegal to have a gun near a voting station?

I base this on the fact that you don't allow guns in a court house, so maybe the same applies to a voting station?

The gun was holstered and the dude was standing outside.

The story in question took place in Virginia, an Open Carry state.

How unsurprising. We've been hearing about that Black Panther with the nightstick for literally years, even opened up a DOJ investigation with it's own attendant scandal IIRC, but now there's a guy with a gun outside asking people how they're going to vote, and it's NBD because he's Team Red.

Who could have foreseen this shocking development?

"Team Red"?

You of all people should know there's a difference between some dude "open carrying" properly vs a couple of Black Pathers dressed up in full regality brandishing a billy club.

You are ignoring the main points whembly, he is literally blocking people asking who they are voting for. Get that through your head

ya, the color of their skin. It's been made abundantly clear this year that blacks do not have the 2nd amendment protection and will only result in them getting gunned down on the streets. even if their just waiting in their car to pick up their kids from school.

do they make holsters for clubs? isn't a club just another form of arming yourself, and the right to bear arms would include knives, swords, spears and clubs.

I have a hard time believing that as the police were there to investigate him. If he truly blocking people in such fashion (regardless if his holstered weapon), then that's something.

It was more than just "some dude open carrying" if he's approaching people as they enter the polling station. If I recall, Ouze's feelings on open carry are similar to mine: a pointless endeavor used by most people to try and make a stupid point. Also, "full regalia?" That New Black Panther dude is wearing a jacket and a stupid hat.

I'd also like to point out that the incident in question happened in Leesburg, the town I live in. Yes, open carry is indeed permitted in Virginia (with a number of restrictions), but it is not at all common in my area, which is why people questioned he's behavior. Chalk it up to one of those things that technically not illegal but also pretty foolish.

Are you saying his black jacket and scary sunglasses increase his lethality?

To be clear, I don't think either one has any place within close proximity of a polling or voter registration location. The difference is I'm pretty sure not a single person examined whether the Black Panther could legally carry a nightstick - it was obvious voter intimidation. Here of course, it has to be qualified about whether or not it's holstered, like that's the primary difference.

Yes - I think Open Carry is a constitutional right, but also one that seems to be reserved for dumbasses. More saliently, though, you have just as much a right to carry a sign saying "I'm with her" or what have you, and no reasonable person argues with the idea that it's OK to ban it within a short distance of polling locations, so it's weird to see the mental gymnastics required to make this morally OK.

To put it differently, if this was a Black Panther in full regalia carrying an Ak-47 slung, it would be the top story on Fox News and Drudge would have the sirens out - and no one would really be trying to justify it.

Apparently it's a thing. At first glace I thought this would be illegal.... but really... I don't see how.

TL;DR: It's a site/app that will pair you with a voter in another state to discuss swapping votes. In fact, there are a few other apps that are even weighing what a vote is worth...so you might get three or four votes for Gary Johnson in California in exchange for a Nevada Clinton vote.

Gross negligence here.

Sadly, the damage is already done, as just like in this forum the "explosive" news of the new emails got so much coverage, and people will just sort of gloss over or ignore the retraction.

Sort of amazed at Comey's behavior to be honest.

I think he's going to be tendering his resignation very shortly after the election regardless of who wins.

No. I'm saying they knew what they were doing.

You don't know this VA yahoo was open carrying to intimidate... I agree it was silly for him to open carry. But let's dispense with the idea that this is on the same level of the NBP.

At worst the dude was accosting people as they left the polls and obviously the police were than to see what' sup.

I definitely would like to hear you explain exactly how an armed man outside an early voting location handing out GOP literature and asking people how they intend to vote is nowhere on the same level as what the NBP guy did and clearly not an attempt to intimidate voters.

So a person wearing a trump shirt with a gun blocks your way and asks you who you are voting for, especially after Trump saying there will be rigging andsome supporters calling for rebellion etc you would not be off put? You are either lying or naive

Point being. the NBP are a racist crowd... not on KKK's level (as they were as successful) but pretty bad.

Election is Tuesday the 8th. So far as when precisely it "ends", it depends.

For example, Trump has no path to victory without Florida, so if he loses there, the election is probably over by 9PM EST.

There are other, darker paths though.

Thanks for the answer.

Well, yeah, it indeed depends of the results. I really hope everything will end "smoothly", it would be good to have some peace at last rather than the rather tumultous previous weeks.

Okay here's one slightly more off topic. Considering the rhetoric, inflammatory comments and sheer bile directed at Clinton, do you think Trump is in trouble, assuming she wins?

From what I've gathered from other sources his brand name is heading south, taking his families businesses with it. Eg cancelled golf trips, clothing returns etc (A personal favourite is the events(?) company that told their staff any expenses incurred at a Trump outlet would not be reimbursed)

Would she return the favour and start an investigation into him, or at least expedite the on-going racketeering charge and tax questions?

Cheers

I don't think anyone who can pull in 50 million voters is likely to be in any financial trouble. If all else fails, he'll have no problem milking the rubes in the derposphere. Look at how long Sarah Palin was able to play that out, and she didn't start out with a giant pile of money and brand recognition. He'll be fine. Once you hit a certain level of wealth in the US, you do really well no matter how badly you fail, and of course it remains to be seen if he even did fail.

I would certainly hope not. It's a little sad I had to type this out, but it's undesirable for the POTUS to weaponize the justice department for settling political scores.

But its a bit hard to maintain making America great again, when your products are labelled Made in Bangladesh. Or motivating the steel workers when you keep buying Chinese steel. I hate to use the term, but are they that stupid?

And yet Trump wanted to do just that.

I'm not suggesting that she use the justice dept to persecute him, just wondering if a gentle reminder from high might encourage some enthusiasm to shift some paper.

The actions of the person draws more attention, for me. Is the person "being nice" or using "racial slurs"? That's going to help determine how I view the weapon they are carrying.
