Hi, just a quickie here :-)

When the new SM codex comes out, will the Forgeworld Badab War Characters be gone the way of the dodo until/if Forgeworld update their rules? Specifically these lads:

http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Downloads/Product/PDF/C/Charcterupdate.pdf

I am guessing they will, but would be nice if you could continue using them!

I would hope that Forgeworld bring out an FAQ/update in regards to those characters, but if not I'm sure other players would have no issues with you fielding them as you could argue that there is nothing anywhere officially by GW/Forgeworld saying you could not use them.

We’ll also see if what changes that affects them. Marines tend to be fairly static.

Let’s wait and see if we need to worry.

I'd say no just like Iyandan and Eldar

Well GW don't seem to care what rule set you use with your models. So you could arguably still use the version of Badab rules and no-one would have an issue with it. Only real changes would be for updated bits anyways- for instance if someone has Rending etc.

Forgeworld rules always roll forward with their updated codex. From the rumors we will still have chapter tactics in the new codex so there probably isn't going to be anything that would invalidate the rules.

Iyanden was a basic Supplement. So you can compare that to Sentinels of Terra and Clan Raukaan, but not IA:9/10. Look at the IA:1 2nd Edition. That's the 'current' Imperial Guard Forge World book that is so old that it still calls them Imperial Guard. Still legal to use.

As long as there are still Chapter Tactics, they are legal until a new IA comes out or someone FAQs them. I've been following it too since I run Astral Claws, but everything looks like it's going to fit in the new books. The only issue I am seeing so far is that 'Honor Guard' might cease to be a thing. So, house rule sets might be needed there.

Well, they didn't fix the FW BA characters (the Lamenters Chapter Master) when their new book came out, so I wouldn't count on them making the other FW Space Marine special characters work with the new codex.

I don't see how Phoros doesn't function.

There are complications due to the fact he has the Red Thirst rule, which has a different function than it used to.

When the last codex dropped, they FAQ'd the characters within days of its release. While I'm not counting on it this time around (their FAQs frequency has dropped to nil) there's always a chance that they'll update them. After all, they have models for several of those characters, and in order to keep selling, they need to be playable.

IA are also supplements so if they work for IG and now SM why not Eldar when all 3 have/will have a name change?

It sounds like IoM bias to me

The Eldar IA still works too. No bias.

Until they tell you otherwise just roll with the most updated material, the parts that affect your list (for instance point costs of units) still apply but individual characters unless discontinued would use their most recent rules. That's how I see it anyway

As far as I know, he just gets the bonus for having it as a core rule instead of specifically in the detachment. I don't own the Blood Angels codex and don't have Battlescribe in front of me though.

The former Red Thirst rule was replaced with Furious Charge as the 'armywide' rule. It would make sense to house rule that change. But, that is only HIWPI.
