In the rules for challenges it say models not involved in a challenge can attack those taking part in the challenge when all other enemy models are slain.

So for example... say my solitary solitaire without a squad charges a Tac squad and challenges the sergeant. The sergeant and solitaire fights, no one dies. Because there's no other enemy models can the Tac marines then attack the Solitaire?

"That's how a Luna Wolf fights."
"If you can't keep up, go and join the Death Guard"
"It had often been said that Space Marines knew no fear, but when Angron charged, he ran"

The answer is yes, contentious on occasion, poorly written rule.

Better than 6th, I think, where everyone else just stood around uselessly while a Daemon Prince slaughtered their mate

NOt at all contentious or pooorly written. Only gets confusing if you go by the 6th ed "like a different unit" challenge; all a challenge does here is modify who may have wounds allocated to them initially.

Indeed, i have only seen "contention" from players who cannot let go of how 6th Ed Worked.....

6th ed used to say "models in a challenge cannot be affected by other models" or something similar. That is now gone. 7th just has one restriction: you must allocate Wounds to models outside of the challenge, until there are none left.

It's like you take a Space Marine and say "what could make him cooler?" Instead of adding more super-genetic-psycho-organic modification, you take it all away. You have a regular human left in power armor and all the armies of hell at the gates. And she doesn't even flinch. Pure. Badass.
