Hey all.

I'm presently working on building (physically, that is) my new Chaos Space Marines that came in. I started with the Terminator Lord, because it seemed the easiest to start with. It has led me to two questions:

1) Was the plastic for models different a while back? I've built a few sprues of things, and I have never encounter such - dare I say - low quality plastic. Compared to things more recent, it is a pure nightmare to work with. The rest of the things in the attack force box seem like newer material, but the lord is markedly dfferent. Even the color is a more faded grey. (And no, I checked. It isn't resin, lol)

2) In building it, I was looking at the pieces and noticed how wicked its version of the Chainfist looks. That got me thinking: if I'm not looking at converting it to Khorne Daemonkin, what would the benefit of taking a Power Axe be over the Chainfist? They are both unwieldy, but the x2 Strength and Armorbane of the Chainfist are really tempting over not getting the extra attack in a charge.

Power Axe is cheaper. That's it.

If he had a pistol he'd also get an extra attack with it, but he can't take one with Terminator armour.

Currently ongoing projects:

He'll still get the extra attack on the charge. Specialist only affects gaining the bonus for having 2 close combat weapons.

I thought I was thinking wrong about what he would lose. Same amount, just different reason, lol

We're talking about this guy, right?

Spoiler:

I never bought him originally, because my Chaos collection is quite sporadic, and I generally don't buy characters of factions I only model odd pieces out of. However, I got one of him in the new Assassinorum Execution Force box (or whatever it's called), and mine looks pretty darn good. It says 2007 on the sprue, and it sure looks like anything else made circa that time. It's not as detailed or intricate as stuff made today, but it comes pretty close.

Mine is still on sprue.

Yeah, that's the guy. The one I got in my CSM Attack Force is a strange, lighter gray than normal sprues, but not white-ish like resin. I have another Termie Lord that I bought on its own, and it is like sprues you would buy today - extreme detail and dark gray. Kinda weird.

Same mold made with different plastic. GW has been upgrading their plastic quality and it is getting harder and darker. The harder plastic is more brittle but holds detail much better.
