We all saw the trailer.
I liked the premise. Imho they should have kept the mask: it's a classic from the 1st, instantly recognizable, and a metaphore of the character's darker side.
Outsider's powers seem somehow different in fluff but the same mechanically - instead of Blink we get some kind of tentacle grappling hook. And a transformation into a shadow monster, apparently. Time slow/time stop is straight from the original Dishonored.
Rumors are you can play as grown up Emily or old Corvo. I guess I'll play both and maybe approach the game in different ways. Corvo always struck me as methodical and secretive - but this might totally be a preconception I have. From the trailer, Emily seems more of a maverick, going in with guns blazing.
I hope Corvo is voiced, this time.

The Lair of Vengeance....Poole.

Still waiting on more news. I was terribly disappointed with the old one.

If it's less linear, and provides depth, then it'll be good.

If they just copy the first one and hope that the setting carries the game, then it'll be another waste of money.

Taking the game forward and placing it on the continent is interesting. It was a place that was only just being explored in the first game, but now (a decade or so on) we have colonialism in effect.

Whale oil still seems to be a thing based on the walkers seen in the background early on, but perhaps its become much more of a luxury resource by this point? Given that the first game pretty much said "keep killing the whales/gods and bad crap's going to happen" I wonder if this game will explore that in its Cthulhu like goodness.

Rather than the rat plague, which was said to be nothing compared to what the continent has, there appears to be a new one revolving around insects. That was pretty cool actually.

Emily is supposed to be the Empress at the end of the first game. Given the game's title I guess she loses that position, but she'll have reclaimed it eventually so that the first game's ending that states what she does as Empress later on in her life can still become true.

The beardy scientist from the first game appears in a portrait behind the villain in the trailer. He was a painter remember as well. Most people seemed to let him be eaten by the rats, damn I saved him and he went onto cure the rat plague. I wonder if the low chaos ending from the first game will be canon at all (could be either way I suppose. The Emily here could be a goody acting like a vigilante, or she could be a sadistic sociopath).

Whatever. I loved the first game. Sure it could have been polished more, but it was a great world. I'd like to see more of the cosmic horror story stuff coming into play (hell the state religion even says something like "we're screwed. We're one island in a sea of chaos, and all we have is the humans around us against all the monsters"), as it was more of a backstory around events than taking a direct hand.

Dishonored was a great game, but too easy too quickly as you soon had god-like powers via instant-invisiblity teleportation. Highly excited for the new one.

I really enjoyed the first game, it certainly did a better job of being Thief than Thief did. I also took the nonlethal approach, which makes the game considerably harder as most of the toys and powers you get are for the lethal approach.

Anyway, hoping the sequel well be good.

I reject absolutely revenge, aggression, and retaliation. The foundation of such a method... is love. I love you Sheriff Truman." - Twin Peaks

I'm also wondering if we'll get better insight on what the Outsider is. Some kind of lovecraftian trickster, like a cross between Loki and Yog-Sothoth? His connection to whales is also only hinted at, not fully explained.

All in all, I'd say the world of Dishonored would make for a good RPG setting.

So, with what ending did they go then? High, medium or low chaos?

It would seem either low or medium, but I am not sure since I seem to only end up with high chaos due to my rather unsubtle playstyle aka kill everyone. But as the child survived one would suspect low??

While the stealth kills / no bloodshed playthrough offered a nice challenge, I did find it punishing that killing was oh so heavy handedly punished with those endings.

You can still save her in high chaos, you just have to either stop time and run up, or do to dash and press the action button a lot. Id did it on mine (not because I tried to kill anybody, but because I was really bad. That, and I only realized you could hide bodies until my second playthourgh (e.i. the people I knocked out kept being eaten by rats)

You only got bad endings if you excessively killed people - as it should be. Killing an enemy now and then has no negative consequences.

I remember I only killed the targets and all the zombies. Didn't even have to chase the admiral outdoors to get Emily back.

What was the "bad" ending, what that the same as the "high chaos" ending? Because that ending didn't seem to "bad" to me.
Spoiler:
Emily alive and back in power, just with more infighting.

It could be that Emily and Corvo both have their own set of powers given by the Outsider.

In the after show they talked about how they made it so Emily and Corvo play much differently, with not just different skills, but made them move and fight differently too, to make them unique characters, not just re-skins. That's why she used the grapple instead of the dash.

Haverlock greets Corvo and knows that he will die. He doesn't attempt to kill Emily, instead giving Corvo the key to her cell. The good ending has Corvo live and Emily going on to become a benevolent ruler who hails a new golden age. The characters that aid you in the game mostly live (the boat keeper doesn't betray you at the end for being an evil git). Corvo dies eventually and Emily is aware that you were her father.

Haverlock commits suicide by throwing himself off the fortress along with Emily. If Emily she lives in the bad ending she turns into a sociopathic evil ruler. If she dies then the city loses itself in infighting and to the plague. Corvo eventually dies largely unremembered.

Also, though not strictly tied to the good or bad endings, whether you choose to kill certain people has an effect too. For instance if both the scientists live, unlikely if you're bad, but it can happen, the Plague will be cured and a technology progresses. If they die then IIRC the plague is eventually cured, but plenty of people die and everyone's worse off (that is unless Emily dies, then the empire falls and humanity's pretty much screwed).

A good indication of how you're doing in the game is to read the journals of the nanny and to see what kind of drawing Emily has put up over her bed.

Yeah...

Though yes all the rats everywhere is also a subtle hint. ...And the Weepers. And the extra guards. And the weather change too (its sunnier when you're low chaos, overcast when your high).

Dammit I need to replay Dishonoured Now! I made it up to the last level then my computer died. :(

I'm probably going to do another playthrough as well, trying to get low chaos this time, and actually collect all the bone shards and stuff.

The issue with the bone charm things I had was that half way through the game they became useless. I already had all the powers that I wanted. Sticking charms into the others was pointless. If you could have used them in other ways, like say trading in a bunch for a buff to your stats or something then I may have bothered collecting them after that point.

Nah, what annoyed me was at one point you need money. Its right after a mission and as usual you spend all your cash on items, etc. I only managed to the low chaos option in that instance as I happened to notice that there was an extra item for sale from the scientist and thought "yeah, that might come in useful later". So I dropped the cash on it. Had I not done that and spent the money elsewhere then a pretty important character would have died. That is unless there's another way to save the guy other than buying that wine? Like I donno tell the scientist to give you the damn stuff because its going to a good cause and you're both on the same bloody side. =P

Ah yes, that's also the thing, going for the low chaos solutions gives you extra rewards, something the high chaos solutions won't do.

I was just thinking, it would be cool if killing lots of people gave you more lethal weapon-related rewards, and non-lethal solutions gave you non-lethal weapon related rewards.

"Emily you seem to like throwing your tentacle at people and then cutting them up into little bits. How about I give you the power to use your tentacle as a weapon and tear people up with it? You ever played that game The Darkness? Yeah? Right!". Saying that I wonder if you Emily can through that tentacle at someone instead of just an object. Presumably you could, and perhaps drag them that way.

Also I expect Corvo's blink may be updated to match how the DLC handled it. As in stopping time when you aim it. Typically you'll be running about the first game quickly blinking wherever, though if you're being stealthy you may spend much longer planning your moves. Having time stop is useful for that and seeing as the DLC implemented it I'd hope the second game repeats this (Emily's tentacle however seems like a different type of power).
