Hey everyone this is a bit of a random question but I have some old ork boy models and along with a multitude of cool hats and helmets those models have orks with Giant Guile from street fighter Mohawks. Now I love these models and wish the new boyz had similar options, my question is why are most orks bald and usually only have that abadon Mongolian ponytail, as a sidenote can orks grow facial hair.

All orks are bald. To create hair they use things called hair squigs.

Squigs are proto-ork lifeforms.

They come in various forms and shapes and sizes. Hairy ones, pointy ones (syringe squigs), etc. Generally, the hairy ones are antagonised and encouraged to bite - and these are placed on the scalp where the ork wishes the "hairpiece" to be. Multiple squigs can and often ARE used in this way.

I don't remember ever seeing as GW Ork with facial hair so probably no, but they could possibly use beard squigs for a similar effects.

Well we can always glue some hairs In fantasy I think they stick dwarf beards and hair to themselves too .

As mentioned previously, Orks don't have hair naturally. However, they have squigs to do just about anything with. So if an Ork wants a beard, he uses a beardsquig, and will groom and feed it according to how luxurious/voluminous he wants his beard to be. Same with the topknots, mohawks and other hairstyles you see on Orks. Those, too, are squigs.

That Ork Cheerleader? Boobsquigs.
Mobile libations at Ork celebrations? Beersquigs.
Someone to carry more bullets for your shoota? Ammosquig. (also handy as a CCW in a pinch).

Do you think Runtherds use squigsquigs?

Nah, those are inceptionsquigs. Though there is a variant species called a squigsquared, erroneously identified by the Imperium as "squig2".

Wait I'm confused is the hair shaved from the squig or are they just throwing a really hairy squig variant on top of their head.

They take a squig, which is a small, bestial orkoid sub-species.

They stick it where they want the hair to be. The squig bites down, and doesn't let go.

The Ork then feeds and waters the squig to get more or less hair, depending on how they want to look. Styling and such may occur, depending on what look they are going for (mohawks, for example, are a high-maintenance hairstyle).

Hair Squigs - Hair Squigs are a parisitic variety of Squig which possess small bodies, no legs, no eyes, and a pair of pincers in place of a mouth. They have long hair running from their tiny bodies that Orks like to customise and dye after clamping the Squig's pincers onto their own hairless heads, though this customisation has no effect on the Squig's health.

The hair squig is pretty small. It basically bites on to the skin and then stays there, drawing nutrients from the Ork's skin.

Hair Squigs are an ancient and epic piece of fluff that I had managed to forget about somehow, lol.

They're Orks. do you really expect a not crazy explanation for anything about them?

Hahaha, that's what I meant to say - I should have known it was going to be something ridiculous like this!

Ork fluff is just wonderful

Some people give Orks flak for being the 'comic relief' race of 40k, but I'd honestly read their fluff any day over some of the ridiculously dry stuff that GW has put out.

The thing is, Orks have a consistent internal logic. They make sense, and they aren't at all comical from an in-universe perspective. They're funny not because they do things that make no sense. They're funny because they do things that DO make sense-- as long as you're thinking like an Ork!

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

Grots carry ammo cases just fine. So ammosquigs are unnecessary luxury.

At risk of necro posting, if you've not seen a bearded Ork, you've not lived! One of my favourite models, who will one day get an upscaling to fit in with my newer Orks.

Squigception surely?

I found this little tid-bit on the net...Auberoun runs a blog and featured an article about a 'Hair Squig'

There is not this idea.

Wait, so could Orks have prehensile hair?

Given that from original source, the squig's tail isn't prehensile, not so much... the best you'll probably get is 'constantly blowing dramatically in a nonexistent wind' as the squigs fidget.
