So I have collected a few miniatures over a two years or so, originally because my brother was starting to play but then he quit. He sold his minis but I always kept mine and 4 of my friends started picking it up so I was happy to be able to finally play more.

Problem is though, I don't think I want to play my current faction of necrons.

I am quite indecisive when it comes to making decisions, as almost every faction looks appealing to me in 40K. The main thing i was looking at at first was Orks, but they seem to be considered the worst faction to play, however the nail in the coffin is a simple 1000 point army seems to be extremely pricey, even something like $500! So I started looking at all the other factions again and paid more attention to Daemons then I have in the past, even looked at the codex. They look really fun to play, all the randomness (or chaos you could say) that they have seems to be something I would enjoy. Love the idea that if you rolled extremely badly it could be possible, depending on your army, to lose turn 1 due to the warp or get lucky and get another squad of units.

I just don't really want to play them if they are considered bad. It can be fun playing a bad army but if I will lose almost all of my games with my friends then its less fun (also have been decently as necrons because Iron hands are dumb, but I don't want to play them anymore because they are just boring to look at/paint and not really boring or fun gameplay), I like winning every once and awhile! So would chaos daemons be a solid choice in both fun and still being able to win games? Them having (i think) a 6th edition codex a bad thing? Will it be upgraded soon? Any other race suggestions? Thanks for any responses you make, means a lot to me.

Might I add the races my friends play/will play
Tau
Space Marines (Iron hands)/ (might change to chaos space marines)
Space Marines (blood angels)/ (might mix in imperial guard)
Imperial guard

I don't want to play the same thing as my friends so don't suggest any of the listed above (I would be fine using some chaos space marines in a daemon army though) and also would be against tyranids
Dark Eldar also tickles my interest, but from my understanding are really hard to play and I haven't looked much into them besides looks

Daemons have some good builds and plenty of access to cheese if that's what you're after. You'd have to decide between Daemonkin or regular daemons or waiting for future potential daemonkins, though.

With them having what looks like shooting armies, you can get some good daemon assault units. Bloodletters have a high WS (5 IIRC) and plaguebearers are pretty durable. Also the Tzeentch heralds can summon daemon squads. Or if you're using Khorne Daemonkin you have the potential to summon certain units with blood tithe points. Also Bloodthirsters

WAAAGH!!!

also somethign to keep in mind....the daemon codex bloodthirsters are better than the daemonKIN version, due to access to gifts.

Definitely this. Daemonkin can only wish for rerollable 2++ with 4+ fnp

Daemons are my favourite army to play by far. just try to steer clear of mono-god lists. tzeentch is the only one that ever works for me and it is PAINFULLY slow to play due to ridiculous amounts of psychic powers (fateweaver!)

The main points for daemons.

Most of them die easily. Plaguebearers in cover don't

Daemonettes are great for TEQs. Bloodthirsters are great for MEQs. It's getting them close enough that's the problem

I like the fact that they can be played as a horde army or a high point, low model count army.

The warp storm table is "fun"

There is potential for over powered cheese (Screamerstar, Daemon factory, invincible strength D BT) but it's optional and against most armies/players unnecessary.

Just the potential for running a Bloodthirster with 8 D strength attacks on the charge, a rerollable 2++ and 4+ feel no pain should be enough to make you moist! the thing is Damn near impossible to kill and WILL wreck anything you point it at

"If you wait a few months, they'll pick one of the worst codexes and they'll nerf almost everything, its an abstract sort of balance, but it's the sort of balance gw likes... "

Daemons are probably the only older book that can stand up tall with some of the newer books. However, daemons have always been a tricky army to play, I would say they are one of the more advanced armies. You need to know how to take advantage of a slew of special rules, and play tactically well.

Or just stack up insurance to make sure a grimoire goes off on your deathstar.
