I'm quite new to 40k and I was recently confused. I saw a flat faced helmet on a space marine that didn't look like any of the 'mark' helmets I knew, is this a common helmet that I did not know about? If so, what is said helmet called?
Thanks Dakka

The only thing i think it could be would be a mk1,2, or 3 helmet, you don't usually get them in the latest Tac squad boxes though.

Forge World do them.

It was probably Mk2 or Mk3, both of those had a full gill across the mouth and jaw. Mk1 is also a possibility but it's more of just a visor.

I've seen those ones, I don't think it was that, on the gw site, under veterans MK 2 there is one.

That's a Mk VI "beakie" helmet. You just can't tell because of the angle. I have the metal version of that set.

Oops, I think I can see that now. I also looked up mk 2 and mk 3 and the lighter mk 2s look to match what I saw the first time, thanks all.

Is it not the same style of helmet that the company champion has in the command squad kit? Just a modified MkVII I always thought.

That's what I originally thought, how ever that same type of helmet came up when I searched for mk2 and 3 helmets.

A lot of the helmet designs are just fancy mark 7 helmets. Setting the rules aside, that's what "artificer armour" is - a suit with some level of customisation, decoration, etc. Pretty much every Blood Angel model is now wearing artificer armour, from a background point of view.

Do you mean this one on the right?

I thought that was Mk 7 / 8 personally. Having looked in to it, it seems closer to that seen in the below image of Aegis armour worn by the GK's in the following Lexicanum page.

"Grey Knights wear Aegis Armour, power armour that is incredibly well crafted; anointed and inscribed with prayers and wards, ritually consecrated and psychically charged. The suits are generally based on components from Mark 6, 7 and 8 power armour designs, with a modified helmet design with a tapered, knight-like visor. "

Just checked, they're not an exact match (the one on the vet is slightly flatter, though they are still comparable) but you can find these helmets in the Grey Knights Strike Squad box.

Yeah, that's what I saw. It does look like that grey knight armor.
