Hi Guys,

I am thinking of fielding an assassin form the Officio Assassinoron Codex. PS: just for fun since I do not rely on them to save the day.

I am balancing between Callidus and the Culexus (the Vindicare being to situational and the Eversor only purpose being to get kill).

Both are very good at close combat and the Culexus seem to be a better support for SoB since I do not have any Psyker how ever the Callidus seems to deal more damage and can really get rid of those big tyranids/Monsters creatures.

What do you think?

I will test play (proxy) one of them before making the purchase.

It really does depend on the rest of the your list. Assassins are at their best filling specific holes in your gameplan.

That being said, I lean towards the Callidus being overall the weakest and the Culexus being tied for strongest with the Vindicare. In a vacuum, and only choosing between those two, I would say go with the Culexus, especially in an army without Psykers.

Deffinitly culexus for you, I think it would go well with the army.

I personally use an Eversor assassin to go with my Skitarii
Just get him and a squad of ruststalkers into combat and watch the fireworks

Since SoB have good access to AP2 weapons, and no psykers, the Culexus seems like a good choice.

They were actually released quite a while ago and then published again (for free :/) in white dwarf when assassin force game came out.

I would argue that a vindicare is not very situational at all. His latest rules may not allow him to "one shot" land raiders anymore, but he is arguably still one of the best.

Has that tac squad bearing down on your transport got a melta gun?
2+ to hit, 2+ to wound, ap2 , ignores cover, precision shot says "not any more"

Sergeant in a squad you want to charge has a power fist? "Not any more"

I dunno, I've been quite successful at times with a callidus. At least when you get lucky with those 6's. Even somehow managed to take out a spacewolf terminator squad with some character...don't remember who it was. Mind you that was stupid lucky.

Vindiicare is dangerous, the ability to remove a chosen target

A single turn and that one shot could change the entire game if you removed the right character.

Sgt. Vanden - OOC Hey, that was your doing. I didn't choose to fly in the "Dongerprise'.

In units like tactical Marines or other squads with one or 2 special/heavy weapons is where the Vindicare shines. Its not so much of him making his points back directly, but him neutering the opponents ability to make back points with their squad.

Whats that you've got a missile launcher marine? Not any more!

I personally plan on fielding a Culexus Assassin with my Guard, as having an added anti-psyker element is a boon for my force which has decent, if not squishy psykers.

Also, the Culexs is more of a close combat threat to small squads, only hitting him on 6's, with his returnig attacks ignoring armor saves and causing instant death on 6's (Or all attacks being instant death/ignoring armor saves if the target is a psyker).

I do agree that the Vindicare is also extremely useful in most situations and versus most opponents.

I'd try both and see which one preforms better in a couple of games each versus a variety of opponents and see which one you like most.

Take it easy for now.

Culexus absolutely. Being (effectively) permanently invisible makes him very tough to take out. Several psychic powers in the game are pretty broken, and the Culexus can come in and tell them to pick up their blessings off the table with no backtalk.

He's good when there are no enemy psykers. He's a monster when there are.
