Annnd I've never heard of him/seen anything he's in. Not sure he's a convincing Peter Parker... No doubt we'll have YET ANOTHER origin story just in case we've forgotten the last 1000 times

Marvel and Sony have found their Peter Parker.

“The Impossible” actor Tom Holland is set to play the web-slinging superhero in the next “Spider-Man” franchise, sources confirm to Variety.

The actor is first expected to make an appearance in “Captain America: Civil War” in order to properly introduce him into the Marvel film universe, with standalone films to follow.

In February, Sony announced a new partnership with Marvel Studios that brings the popular superhero into the Marvel universe and added that the first standalone would bow on July 28, 2017.

Former Sony co-chairman Amy Pascal is producing along with Kevin Feige.

Holland is repped by Wme and can be seen next in “In the Heart of the Sea” opposite Chris Hemsworth.

Not to keen on another Parker in 10 years, and as one of those who is a huge fan of the Garfield films this new kid has a lot to live up to.

I don't imagine we'll get another origin story, though, as anything more than a flashback. But if I have to see Uncle Ben get shot one more time, I'm liable to want to shoot him myself!

Still, in Marvel we trust.

Based on that bit of article you put up there, I don't think we'll get yet another "origin story".

I think this way because firstly, if there were to be an origin story, I think that it would come before his appearance in CA: Civil War.

I may be wrong, but I kind of suspect that somehow, Sony owns the "rights" to the Spiderman Origin story, so I would imagine that somehow, Marvel studios would have to completely reinvent Spidey, and that would piss off too many fans (IMO).

I am scratching my head though... I've never seen this guy in a movie, so I don't know how well he can act. His IMDB profile says he's a comedian, which is good for a Spiderman part, but I've never seen his stand up routine, so I don't know if I think he's funny.

In short, I've never heard of this guy, so while I may catch the movies, I'll have to wait and see how he does in the next Cap movie (which will be his first Marvel appearance as Spidey)

Marvel isn't doing any more Origin stories. Doctor Strange and Spider-Man will be set up in other movies before they get their own.

And this Spider-Man is supposed to focus on the wise cracking/sarcastic side of Peter, starting as a sophomore in civil war, then 3 movies of sophomore through senior year.

Realistically though, there aren't many Marvel studios movie characters who have had an "origin" story... Coming from Marvel studios directly, you have Iron Man, Hulk, and Captain America. Thor's movies were introductory sure, but they weren't "Origin" stories, because the comic book version of Thor is quite different from movie version. BW didn't have her own movie, she just kinda popped up in various other films before really coming out in Avengers, same thing for Hawkeye and Col. Fury.

It really kinda seems like it's Sony studios that loves the origin stories, lol.

Fair enough. I was just trying to address the complaints about seeing Uncle Ben die again. He won't in this, apparently.

Unless Captain America is fighting Bucky/Winter Soldier on the streets of Manhattan some late night, and an old man is visiting the Library to pick up his delinquent nephew, Captain America is dodging bullets, and one happens to deflect off his shield, striking old Ben in the chest, killing him on the sidewalk

Why has he been recast again? I thought the last guy was pretty good.

I would imagine that the current Spidey, Mr. Garfield was contracted to Sony Pictures Spider-man, and something about copyrights and contracts, and blah blah blah...

Basically, this new spiderman actor is going to appear in the MCU.

iirc, according to the Sony email links Garfield and Sony didn't get along very well.

Also, ASM2 performed below expectations at the box office, so it's likely Marvel would want to distance themselves from that franchise.

Personally I wasn't a fan of Garfield nor the reboots in general, and I'm not at all looking forward to more teen-angst Parker. Can we please get a grown man, established Parker?

As long as it really isn't an origin/reboot, it may be good. Spidey and Batman need fresh material.

Garfield was a good Spidey and a gakky Parker. Parker never gelled his hair, used a skateboard or wisecracked before donning the costume. Sony ignored what made a good Parker and focused only on spidey. Which is fine in a non origins story. But if you're going to do an origins story, do it right. And the second Garfield movie just sucked. I haven't met an actual person who liked it. Just a couple random faceless people on Dakka who found it enjoyable.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Apparently, Spiderman will appear in Civil War or Infinity Wars (likely the former), then will have an independent trilogy with Sony.

It's supposed to be pretty close to the Ultimate Spiderman Comics (I haven't read the older stuff, so I can't say how similar it'll be to some of that).

And as cool as a Donald Glover Spiderman could have been, I've always though Miles was very whiny/didn't have dialogue that felt right for Spiderman. There's always room for more Spiderverse characters in the later movies though.

I'm more curious if we'll see Doctor Strange in Civil War as well, as he has to be set up before his film, but that's because I'll take Doctor Strange over Spiderman any day and the Eye is probably one of the last gems.
