Just wondering if anyone is planning to rebase their WFB models for AoS and switch to round bases? Would be a mammoth task for me since I decided to punish myself with horde armies. 100 night goblins.. yay.

I like the GW bases for making everything match, but I think they’re gonna be too pricey at around $5 for 10. I miss the good ole days when they sold em in a big back for dirt cheap. My favorite are the rounded edge “warmachine bases”, but they only come in 30, 40 and 50mm, not too many options. So, I’m planning to use Proxie Models. I’ve used them for a lot of other projects, they’re thin and flat and they work great and there’s lots of different sizes. There just aren’t many oval options, but they do have pill shaped ones that should work good. I’ve always thought round bases look better than that squares in general, so I think they’ll look great in the end.

I also plan to use the same minis for Kings of War, that uses squares… but I read that the bases for units don’t matter so much, as long as they’re in a square block, so I figured I’d just use movement trays.. hopefully that will be good enough?

Anyway, is anyone else planning to update their bases? Or do you like the square ones better?

Skaven player here so I feel your pain. I was just prepping a slave hoard when AoS dropped and was having similar thoughts.

Personally, I think I'm going to stick with the square bases. I can still play using the "old" rules or the new ones and if they ever decide to go back to Square, then I'm covered...

Since distances are measured to and from the actual model, bases are irrelevant of shape, keeping in mind to stay within the limits of sanity. I would like to Base an army on just pieces of irregular stones or shingle. I think it would be really cool. Since I play demons on 40k I don't have your problem but I feel it. If I was you i would stick to my pagan looking square bases.

I taught about this over the weekend as myself and fellow player played a AoS battle on Friday.

The more I stared at my Tomb King on a round 40mm base the more I liked it, Ushabti as well it just looks clean... call me silly for jumping on the wagon but hey why not !

Back to your point!, I have about 50+ infantry worth of Square bases in plastic, ripping them off might cause skeleton legs to separate and break, I think only elite units will get the round treatment, as long as your whole army is kept in the same theme on bases, I think you can keep your previous hordes in squares and don't sweat them.

that's just imho !

best of luck ! yeah the $4 for 10 is really a pain, I wish it was for 20 instead!

PS. with future modes that will allow horde battles which I am sure is coming, your trays will STILL come useful, as to myself , I am completely ready to buy square slotted trays for pushing, its gonna be fun !

Get it painted up though. It's a scientific fact that unpainted models die quicker than painted one's.

For my lizards, I was thinking the skink feets might break off too so I thought if I did I'd just use my sprue clippers to snip the base off around them.. a lot of them I used plastic glue to glue them onto the base before painting.

I think though I will probably just do it for my larger models like my giant or stegadon, and leave the horde minis as is, since it will kind of be a nightmare to change them all.

What I'm more torn about is do I keep using the square bases or switch to round now... thinking I will stick with square for consistency but I have to admit, I do prefer the round ones overall...

Any new armies will go round. Having a tremendous horde of skeletons for bot VC and TK, I'd say, I would stick to the resin squares I bought for them...

As the bases do not matter for now anyways.

I prefer square bases, as I will still be able to play 8th, oldhammer, and AOS. So no.
