I was wondering today who would win if they had all there resources, Orks or Imperial Guard ?
I personally think orks as they have the numbers and would beable to re-use or loot every tank they took out.

If it's just the Imperial Guard with no allied forces I would have to go with the orks because not only the sheer amount of them (although IG do have numbers as well) but a boy is a lot harder to put down than a regular soldier. Also, orks can loot any and all IG tech they get their hands on, and I can't really do the same anywhere as easily.

My vote goes for the orks on this one.

If we're just talking Imperial Guard then Orks would win easily. If we're talking all the soldiers in the Imperium (including all the PDF's) then it would be harder but I'd still give the edge to the Orks.

The Orks are a society completely based on fighting. In terms of sheer numbers the Imperium might have more but there are a lot of people who would be unable to fight.

I don't think you can draw any conclusion from such a simplificated state. War is not a game of rock-paper-scissors. 40k may be a fantasy game with no real preoccupations for real military constraints, fluff is still inhabited by many factors like strategic situation, logistics, navy operations, individual heroism or operational/tactical genius of commanders, etc... Despite all of this, it is common knowledge that should the Orks unite, they would wipe anything standing in their way so I'll be worried for the Imperium they actually manage to.

TLDR : too much uncertainities in your question to respond accurately and with any certainty.

IF Orks unite, yes. That's called a Waaagh, and even though it's terrifying it's not 'normal' for Orks.

Their normal state is fractious, tribal and loaded with internicene strife. Usually Imperial forces can rely on superior organization, logistics and communications to concentrate and defeat Orks in detail while they're still scrapping among themselves.

When a Warboss is cunning, savage and charismatic enough to beat all rivals into submission a Waaagh forms. At that point, with all Orky ingenuity, energy and brutality focused on a single foe... well, at that point the target is in serious, serious trouble.

Given enough advance warning, and assuming the target is important enough, the Imperium can muster the resources to counter a Waaagh. That's what happened on Armageddon, for example. Even in that case the Waaagh continued to grow as Orks far and near heard that Armor-geddam wuz where da gud scrap wuz.

Far more common is an isolated PDF being overwhelmed by a Waaagh, or even the kind of debacle the Crimson Fists experienced on Rynn's World. Since a Waaagh grows with every victory, if the Imperium fails to respond quickly enough entire sectors can be overwhelmed.

Such a Waaagh only ends when it reaches some natural boundary, such as a galactic rift, or the leader dies and no Ork is able to replace him before the Waaagh loses momentum and collapses.

My two teef.

There would be soooo much death from this kind of meatgrinder scenario that Khorne would probably gain a permanent physical form in real space. In the end I'd give it to the Orks over the long run. They already had millions of yrs of a head start in populating and spreading across the galaxy. A very successful race that has survived, thrived and outlived an uncounted number of galactic civilizations some of which were laughably more tech powerful then Orks bet fell due to trying to answer questions the Ork race wouldn't even bother to ask. Even with all the infighting I believe in the long long run the Orks will have The Milky Way in it's entirety. Anywhere between present and future in which the Orks fully unite will only speed up the inevitable.

I'm a confessed Ork fanboy though.

Even as an IG and Steel Legion supporter, I agree on the Orks, their is really no contest at all. Alternatively the entire thing comes to a halt when Mork and Gork try to manifest, go back in time, and kill each other for extra sets of teeth.

Just Imperial Guard vs Orks?

Easily Orks, as the guard can't even move from system to system. Plus the orks have so much more men and resources. That said, artillery can be a magnificent thing. I would give it to the Orks any day though.

But, if it were Imperium vs Orks, I think it would be a far closer fight, leaning on Imperial victory?

Assuming full Imperium responce eventualy:
Short term, could go either way.
Long term, If extermanatus is not used, Orks evrey time.
Long term, Extermanatus is used, Imperium can claim a win. For now.

Why? If you kill an ork it releases spores wich grow into new ones. theoreticaly if you insinerate the corpse in time you can stop it but if you miss even one spore they'll be back.

The Armageddon sourcebook mentions the chaos sewn by Ork invasions, the sort of environment greenskins thrive in while the Guard suffers by.

Think of something clever to say.

Orks. This isn't even an argument, if all of the Orks versed all of the Guard, there would be slaughter all around. Hell, if all of the Orks faced all of humanity, they might still win.
