It's been mirrored for some reason, but i see an onager with the eradication beamer, another with the icarus array, i see (gnashes teeth) ironstriders, skitarii rangers, an arc rifle, an arc maul, a phosphor blast pistol and i think i see a radium carbine too! (far in the background just to the right of the antennae on the skitarii alpha with the arc maul and phosphor blast pistol) edit: on further inspection i now think it is a radium pistol

Well done to you both for missing the point.

What i'm actually saying is - FW started out saying explicitly that the skitarii are under the direct control of the fabricator general and therefore will not make an appearance and they will not be doing models for them and that we should use the rules for tech-thralls if we really want to represent them.
Up until now FW's position on the look of 40k skitarii has been that 30k skitarii will look VERY different to the 40k skitarii (barbarian look/feel was conveyed in books released so far) and this new picture is a bit of a turnaround.
There are inconsistencies waiting for a direct port of the skitarii codex to 30k; Ironstriders for example are stated in the skitarii codex as only being perfected well after the HH, yet, there they are and apparently with a volkite weapon if there's any continuity in the BL artwork..

There hasn't been any clarification accidental or otherwise on the existence of phosphor weapons before the HH but there's one is in the pic..

And all made more confusing by the fact they kept away from featuring the neutron laser on one of the onagers (that was discovered just before the HH).

That you're overanalyzing a picture? Given the reversal of technological progress almost everything that exists in 40K existed in 30K.

The skits in Know No Fear are described as having cloaks and energy weaponry...that's it. Completely consistent with the picture.

The image of skitarii has changed from book to book, over at battlebunnies there has been a lot of discussion of what they looked like then and now - 'Know no fear' and 'Titanicus' both provide info on what they looked like. KnoF states they wear a "threat-posture type armour" and (as you say) the weapons are energy weapons - stark contrast to the skitarii codex fluff on the galvanic rifle which expressly fires "servitor-bullets" (slow clap to GW) and the "skitarii war-plate" which is basicly a moisture gathering device with a thin external layer of ceramite-alloy; it uses that moisture to lubricate the inside of the suit. so it can be worn for years at a time.

In regards to the 'discovery' of tech within the imperium - yes, it's all technically been designed thousands of years before the great crusade, but many pieces of tech are 'discovered' after the HH: the TL lascannon predator is a good example.

IIRC The issuance of scrap-code first happens at the start of a large titan-engagement - i can't remember too much more as it's been a while since i went through it. but the sperical thing feths-up stuff real good!

It's not the first instance of 'servitor' weaponry nor is it as silly as you might seem to think. The Hunter-Killer Missiles that the Guard and Marines use are guided by a servitor brain. Imperial emplacements use a rudimentary servitor brain as well.

Just because it has modern Skitarii on the cover, doesn't mean it'll have them in it.

Absolutely, the wish is the father of the thought, but i would like to point out that in the (massive!) error Gashrog pointed out, they didn't change the look or colour of the chapter in question, they 'just' got the wrong chapter.

Have they portrayed a dark angel on any HH novella cover art yet? If they appear in black armour it will seal the deal. (for me at least)
