Is there an ITC type generally accepted concensus yet on how to balance this for competitive play, or are most plugging their ears and saying LA LA LA I can't hear you and pretending it doesn't exist and going on ad if 8 th ed fantasy is the only available option?

warhammer 40k mmo. If I can drive an ork trukk into the back of a space marine dread and explode in a fireball of epic, I can die happy!

Or maybe something between those two extremes?

It's only been out a couple of weeks. There are several groups working on trying to balance AoS, and work up points. And maybe come up with rules for tournament play.

Its one hell o a lot of work. In 8th you at least had army structure and points to start with.

With 600 units, all with special rules, and no points, plus crazy ass stuff like summoning for half the armies, it's going to take a bit.

....and lo!.....The Age of Sigmar came to an end when Saint Veetock and his hamster legions smote the false Sigmar and destroyed the bubbleverse and lead the true believers back to the Old World.

We've got a comp called PPC comp, led by Dakka user Attilla and a small internet community of guys like you and me being playtested right now on a thread under proposed rules for Age of Sigmar. Were in version 0.2 for the army's I believe and were already discussing community agreed upon things like how to do measuring and making missions for tournaments and what not. Were hoping that it'll serve as a system for AoS players who want to play a more structured game and hold local tourneys with it and the type by providing a points system and a series of FAQ to help games go more smoothly, much like the ITC does for 40k.

You can come join us on the thread for discussion if you want Orock! Were always looking for more people to help and give constructive criticism. Of course you've got to keep an open mind to a comp system for a Games Workshop game, but if you've played any main title from GW then you've probably played it comp, so it shouldn't be that much of a barrier for ya. (Well then theres convincing people to try it out with you, which might be harder then trying to solve world hunger)

P.S You can click the link in my sig to go to the page to see the point costs yourself if you want!

I believe gw are going to publish a means of balancing the game reasonably soon. It is going to be played at throne of skulls and battle brothers, and I have heard that this is being worked on. Hopefully something will be out soon.

Have a look at my P&M blog - currently working on Sons of Horus

Hey no problem Orock, and like I said if you have any questions or anything to add you can either post in the proposed rules thread or in the blog.

@JamesY, God man we can only hope, if Games Workshop makes a decent system for us to work with then I'm sure I speak for everyone by saying we will all jump on it, but Ive got this gut feeling that your going to walk up and ask what you should bring to Throne of Skulls to play properly and they'll say "your money!"

So this system is around for you to use just in case that happens.

AoS currently isn't part of major tournaments. Players and TOs are still debating, but first feedback is immensely negative towards including it. It would require a LOT (as in a WHOLE GODDARN LOT) of work to...work on a basic level. It might be a sidegame, but in general, the debate currently resolves around 3 possibilities:

a) WHFB 8th (Comped) continued
b) Living Rulebook
c) KoW

- Europe

Facing similar challenges. Current players seem to want 8th more, but that doesn't count non tournament players who do like AoS and it badly fails to note that there's far less ability to add new players to a discontinued game, so 8th tournaments will eventually start shrinking as regular players attrit and aren't replaced.

I look for this next year to be mostly 8th edition tournaments on the circuit of larger events, with maybe some side events for AOS that use various rules systems. The next year we may see a consensus on rules (or maybe not) and we start seeing larger AOS events.

But right now there is way too little information on how the game plays, how individual units behave, and a way to balance armies for events. Just not that easy starting from what GW gave us.

A Prime example is Summoning.

I left it out of our first tournament and had a TK player (who hasn't played aos and didn't show up) send me a scathing message about "nerfing his playstyle" and that the TK needed summoning to compete. Total 8th edition thinking and totally wrong on all accounts. He doesn't have a 'playstyle' as he hasn't played. Tomb Kings are an incredibly tough army with much improved stats and and bravery 10. They won the tournament, easily.

Everyone is having knee jerk reactions to each rules set that comes out because 1) they haven't played enough yet. 2) rules sets need more testing and refinement. 3) They are gamers. Complaining comes naturally.

Be interesting to see where we are in the next year.

This is a points system being worked on by the guys in Louisville with a few other people chiming in. I'm running it at my stores and offering some feedback.

Very good point in there - complaining about what does or doesn't nerf a playstyle from an 8th perspective, you might as well be an Ork 40k player who complains bout Orruk AoS rulings based upon what it'll do to the way his 40K Orks play.

My plan for the Fantasy side of Redstone Rumble is to stick with 8th and add in Kings of War. I'll let the players decide what they want.

If people are open to either then check it out.

I will be running a tournament in the next few months at m LGS. I'll be using the stuff that the group headed by Attila comes up with. Good stuff.
