So, I'm going in on the USAriadna starter pack, because I love the look and I want to get my werewolf on. I've not played Infinity, but my area has some people who are interested.

Are there limitations on which Ariadna units I'll be able to use? Can I mix in the Scots and the French with the Americans? Are there penalties to doing so?

More importantly, are there any werewolves that I WON'T be able to use in my list?

Also, is the Infinity: Classified Deck worth picking up? It seems to be relatively difficult to find people online talking about what it actually is used for.

Gathering the Informations.

You cannot mix, if you just field USAriadna. There is a cap as to how many unique werewolf units you can take(2) in a single list.

Play with this and get a feel for what you're wanting to do:
Infinity Army Builder

The reason the Classified Deck is difficult to find what it's used for is that it is primarily for ITS. And a lot of people just don't like the way it functions.

I use the classified missions system all the time, it's a nice way to add a bit of variety into your games and is fairly well balanced for the most part.

As for the actual classified deck being any good, will be able to tell you in a couple of days hopefully! Believe its only just gone on sale, ordered mine yesterday. The art on them certainly looks pretty nice from the preview shots we have seen and will be a bit more convenient than rolling a dice, checking against the missions in the book and then trying to sneak-look while writing it down.

Also, in this sense it's a bit harder for your opponent to cheat, depending on what kind of people they are

If you go specifically with USAriadna then:
No you wouldn't get to mix in the Scots, French or Kazak units,
The Devil Dogs will be the only werewolves that you can use.

However you can choose to go with 'vanilla' Ariadna and pick-and-choose from all the sub-factions and:
Mix all the nationalities,
Take all the different werewolves, but you'll be limited to troopers at a time out of Dog Warriors, Devil Dogs and Cameronians,
You'll only be able to use two of the three Grunt models unless you proxy one of them as something else,
You won't be able to form troopers into a Fireteam for extra efficiency.

Roughly speaking, vanilla gives you lots of options but no fireteams, USAriadna gives you much more limited unit choice in return for fireteams and being able to take more of each USAriadna unit.

You can always use a fan made classified deck too. Here are two:

and

Captain Spud's are prettier than mine. Mine are cheaper to print.

Thanks for the replies, all!

What is the benefit of using fireteams?

Improved offense/defense, the link gets increasing bonuses for each member added to the link. The entire link benefits from the bonuses in Reactive while only the Link Leader benefits in Active.
Fireteam of 3 (min size) = +1 Burst for Ballistic attacks
Fireteam of 4 = +3 WIP to Discover, Sixth Sense L2
Fireteam of 5 (max size) = +3 BS

They're also more order efficient since you can move the entire team with a single order in addition the link only generates 1 ARO collectively.

There are also down sides, the fireteam has to declare the same skills and can't declare Long Skills that aren't movement skills. The Link Leader is the core of the fireteam so the team has to be in its ZoC (8") and if the Link Leader goes down the Fireteam dissolves although it can reformed by spending a Command Token as long as there are still 3 models that meet the Fireteam requirements.
