Gale Force Nine to Produce Star Trek™ Hobby Boardgame Series
“Bones. Your hands are too big for that.”
– Captain James T. Kirk

For fifty years, in television, film, books and games, Star Trek has explored strange new worlds and sought new life and new civilizations. Now, Gale Force Nine will boldly go where no one has gone before with a compelling series of hobby boardgames that span the galaxy and beyond.

Under license by CBS Consumer Products, this new series of hobby board games will launch during the summer of 2016. Gale Force Nine will be releasing more details about its vision for the Star Trek hobby board game in the coming months.

“We are both humbled and excited to add to the legacy of Star Trek,” said John-Paul Brisigotti, CEO of the Battlefront Group. “Building on the great history and depth of Star Trek, the team at Gale Force Nine are creating a compelling game system that will explore all corners of the universe and bring gamers and fans alike into the world of Star Trek like nothing that’s come before.”

Sweet! GF9 make some really fantastic games that both play well and tend to really capture the feel of the show they're based on. The wizkidz trek games were decent, but the Away Team game really needed an expansion, it got very old after a few playthroughs.

I wonder if they'll be based on the older shows or the new movies

I know it's a board game and all, but maybe this will be a tool to help evangelize the excellent Starfleet Battles miniatures game?

It's spelled "cavalry." NOT "calvary."

So a board game and not a minis competitor to SFB, federation, or clix?

I talked to Battlefront owner John Paul about the rules. It will primarily use the Flames of War engine.

First, the Original Series era: You will command a unit of 100 redshirts, who will fight against 10 Xenos warriors, either Klingons, Romulans, Gorns etc. Redshirts have something like a 2+ to be hit and a 6+ save, while the Xenos warriors wound on 2's and have 2 wounds each, with a 3++ type save.

However, you can upgrade your commander to be Kirk, who will have a 2++ rerollable save, and hits on a 2+ in HTH combat with special axhandle attack.

The Xenos armies can counter Kirk by attaching an Orion slave girl to the unit, and Kirk must make a Leadership roll each round or be out of the fight.

Spock can also be your leader and he is immune to the Orion Slave girl, but if both players roll a d6 and roll the same number, Spock is going through Pon Far at the beginning of the game and has Kirk's combat abilties, but Spock can reroll to wounds!

McCoy gives a unit the equivalent of FNP on a 6+, but you must reroll any saves.

In the TNG edition of the game, if Picard is your leader, after set up he can make a Leadership check and if passed, it means he has negotiated a peace, so the game is automatically a draw.

I understand there will be 6 different Kirk figures, 1 in the gold shirt, 2 in the differernt green shirts, and a potbellied verion of all three.

Sounds good!

Sounds...made up, and not particularly funny - or fun!

OK, it actually was pretty funny, but still!

I have the feeling that this game will be set in the Abrams movie continuity. If so, I'll never even touch the thing.
