I'm in the market for a new transport case for some of my miniatures and I thought it clever to see what the rest of the community is using these days. It'll be for a 28mm force, 40k Grey Knights to be specific.

So what does the rest of Dakka use? I have a few old red-foamed citadel cases that I still use as well as an assortment of make-up cases and cardboard vessels to transport my various forces. Even if I didn't have they new army laying around it's about time to upgrade.

I needed one for my Nova army and just couldnt justify the cost of a decent magnetized case, so my wife made one and we got all the materials for less than $30.

Going to do a bigger one for my Daemons next.

That's really good looking. I've made cases and boxes to ship things in for my design work but it just never occurred to me to possibly make one for my own miniatures.

I don't know how I feel about magnets though. Not in terms of effort, I've just had some issues with magnetizing things in the past... things that shouldn't be magnetized.

Battlefoam is the absolute top of the line standard.

Cannot go wrong. Don't use the GW rubbish. Overpriced and can't fit many models.

Also reason i got the sword bag is because it fits sabol foam which is cheaper.

Bags are awesome the foam is over priced.

I'm a KR Multicase loyalist.

I've been trucking metals, resins, Skitari and all kinds of stupidly fiddly stuff around in mine, it's never let me down.
It's taken some hellish knocks and gouges from idiots walking past the gaming tables, and gone down a flight of stairs...
I would probably trust my firstborn child to this thing, if I didn't mind being arrested for sealing children in boxes.

KR here, too.

They have a big range of custom trays for Grey Knights, if you normal trays won't do it for you.

The cardboard boxes they sell the foam in take a right amount of knocking about, and the bags to carry them in hold more than just the models.

I use the old style Battle Foam 1520 most of the time. It separates into two bags. I enjoy the customization it offers. Need a small case for a Kill Team? Use the top. Up to 1000 pts, use the bottom. More? Use top and bottom.

@kronk - I have one of those that I store a lot of infantry-sized models for. They are FANTASTIC cases.

The problem with 40k models is that the dimensions required for models are SO different that if you pluck foam for a land raider, you're screwed if you want an imperial knight or a bunch of rhinos instead.

A friend of mine bought like, 5 of those, and just interchanges trays. I wish you could buy more P&P trays for them.

I’m another fan of KR. It might not have all the customization options that Battlefoam does, but you don’t pay the premium price either. It’s a good compromise. I have a Kaiser 3 and 7 KRU worth of boxes/foam that I swap around as needed. It’s a good system that works for me.

They do sell some pluck foam trays.

Right now, I have an old BattleFoam 720 bag. And it is really good. However, since I travel a lot by plane, I'll be switching to SKB case (3i-2217-12), while retaining foam. I admit, it is not exactly a display case, but... I don't want TSA to look into my bag!
