Hi. How's it going?
So, completely by accident, I stumbled onto something possibly interesting regarding Perturabo's name. I was never satisfied with the whole "it's a play off of perturbed" origin, so finding this made sense to me:
Perdurabo is a conjugation of a Latin word that effectively translates to "I will endure to the end." That seems to make sense to me.That word itself is the name Aleister Crowley chose for himself in place of the name given to him by his aristocratic family, after being inducted into the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn - a magical society (and it's also the title to his biography). Perturabo also chose his name after rejecting the aristocratic naming traditions of his patron. A decent connection, I suppose.
So, I dug around with Mr. Crowley to see if there were any other connections... but really couldn't find any. The only other interesting bit is Crowley - as a part of his religion/philosophy of Thelema - established the idea of the Aeon of Horus, essentially a new age of mankind that would bring enlightenment to all. Crowley also was a firm believer that science and magic could and should work together, though I don't know if that has any application. Now, I am not an expert on either Perturabo or Crowley - very far from it indeed. And my research didn't take me very far. So there may be further connections that could be made between the two.
Is any of this new info? Not sure. It was to me. And it didn't seem like I had come across this before on any of the other forums or collective bodies of information (the wiki, Lexicanum, etc.). Just figured I'd share is all. Hope you enjoyed.
