Human bombs were an actual thing back in Rogue Trader, there were even models. They were part of the penal legion, and I think they were usually criminals whose crimes were so severe that this was the only way for them to get some redemption. I only made the model for fun really but if I was ever to use it the plan was that the Arbite I made would be his minder/detonator.

Huh, learn something new every day. I missed a lot of the Rogue Trader era, so to me Arbites have just always been leather bound guys with shotguns and robodogs. Nice to know there's a bit more fluff there to explore!

I like the Ash Wastes guy, although I'm not entirely sold on the hood plus vest combo. I think it has to do with their connecting point under the neck- it seems to come together into a solid article of clothing there, but then as you pan down his vest(?) is flayed wide open. What is it connecting to? It may be more obvious to me after it's painted up, so I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with him

Human bomb is fun. Could make for an interesting scenario where an Inquisitor has to stop the bomb in a crowd. Never enough simple unarmed imperial citizens though.

I rather like the ash waste nomad from the neck down. The hood looks out of place on the waist coat....but what do I know about fashion....

Spoiler:

so I guess it works

Maybe this is better:

Also I have finished my Bull Gorg conversion, going to try painting these two guys now.

The skin looks a bit messy but that's largely down to the sanding, it's all quite smooth really. I got some great new sanding stuff recently and it's made so much difference.

It's a pattern of studs! Not christmas related I think, although if I remember the fluff he did famously dress up as Santa at the Underhive Orphanage that one disastrous, messy time.

It's on the original John Blanche art:

This. I absolutely think the green stuff work you did fixed the clash between hood and coat.

I didn't even see the Christmas tree pattern until Theophony pointed it out. Quite likely that will disappear once the skin is painted up and it starts to resemble metal studs in human flesh. I actually think the skin looks pretty good, looking forward to seeing the painted up stage.

The Bull Gorg guy is awesome! Chainsaw hands + Beard... I think is a winning combo.

Thanks, when I get him and my servitor painted I am going to be able to field an entire chainsaw hands gang I think. I figure you would grow a beard if you have chainsaws for hands, unless you were feeling especially brave.

Just a quick post, we had a good three player game tonight, the second one I have played using Space Hulk tiles instead of the full set of scenery. Games on the tiles are a lot faster and more brutal than normal games, and are a lot of fun. I have to admit I am quite tempted to make a 3D version of the Space Hulk tiles for use in Necromunda, but then it's also tempting to buy the Zone Mortalis set as a sort of cross between the two game types. Think I will do more research.

I got destroyed in pretty short order when my fresh Van Saar gang got eaten by Scalies. Tunnels (with nightfighting rules: 12" max range) are not the ideal location for an entirely ranged gang. Especially when scavvy dogs are better in h2h than my gang leader. /moan.

Yeah cool idea! I have the new space hulk and was thinking of doing something similar. I'm sure there's some rules somewhere for explorin the under-underhive in a spacehulk/WHQ/necrumanda mash-up.....

Here's Bull Gorg all painted up.

You'll have to excuse him for looking a bit shiny, I used water effects to give his skin a glistening, sweaty effect and it doesn't photograph so well, not sure there is anything I can do about that with the limitations of my camera. I wanted a real horror movie vibe and I am pretty happy with the horrible unwashed skin. I guess it is hard to use a loofah with chainsaws for hands.

This is pretty much my first attempt at painting in a new style, essentially starting with a white undercoat and using washes of colour to paint in the shadows rather than build up layers. I think I am getting the hang of it, it's much more fun than traditional painting, it feels more organic to me. I haven't done his base yet, I have some plans for a new style of basing, just waiting for a few parts.

He is friggin sweet. Well worth dropping into dakka before bed this evening.

Really like the weathered hazard stripes. Skin is good, colour variation works a treat and the water effect doesn't detract at all. Metal work scratches on his right foot are excellent.

As always its the little things that do it for me - the little pipes on his heels

How are you going to base him.....as in what parts are you waiting for?

He came out very cool... the blood spatter is great and the metal parts are very convincing. Nicely done, I'm sure it's even better in person with the glossy effects.

I'm going to try a few different things, I bought some cork bases of Andy_T but essentially I just want to experiment a bit before I stick him onto a base. I quite like the resin bases I have used previously but they stick out too much on the board and I'm going to try and make bases that blend into the battlefield a bit more (a bit like yours!).

You've done the the original art proud!

Thanks, although I have deviated a bit from the art. The pencil line beard was not working out so I gave him more of a shaggy beard. This is a slightly older Bull Gorg than the one in the artwork, after a while on the run. I think with hindsight I would have done the head differently, it's not as round as the one in the art. The one in the art looks like an Ogryn head and I've seen a few conversions that use Ogryns as the starting point which have a more accurate looking head. The only problem is that Bull Gorg is not meant to be an ogryn so it doesn't really work!

I am secretly very pleased with how well the chest and stomach matches the artwork, I think the nurgle lord is the perfect starting model (plus I get to join the 'convert a nurgle lord' club).

Nah I don't think he will get in the Inq gang - purely an attempt to make a special character. He's probably not going to get many games to be honest as the Necro Special Character rules mean he is unlikely to show up often.

I don't think I can use him with my Inq because I already have a giant with chainsaw hands in that gang.

I just really like building and painting pitslaves, unfortunately I already have a full gang and I don't enjoy playing them as much as my Van Saars. I'm just going to have to make them for fun.

I actually think the head is my favorite part, to be honest. Not sure how to put it... but the "translation" of the art to the figure, I think, is what makes this piece pop to me. The chainswords you used don't have the "falcata" wide-heads like the picture, so I figured it was what you were going for - not at total copy but a damn close realistic approximation. (as real as little plastic/resin/metal figurines get, at any rate)

Hmm... Ogryn... the stumpy-chubs look would probably a safer starting point for a model based on art that doesn't show you the legs... but you're right- the Nurgle Lord stomach and man-boobs plus height were a great move for this conversion.

Either way, great mini and great translation from the art itself.

seriously can you ever have too many chainsaw arms in your retinue.. ! btw now who has the itchy nose problem , great seeing those hulk tiles too, love those , them board games have completely different feel to 40k and narrative driven inq stuff and necro stuff, i love the strategy invoved and the over watch rules , i guess the simplicity of those style of games really appeals to something in me. space hulk is sheer genious for a game , although advanced space crusade is the one i have the most fond memories of.
