In terms of cockpit shape, yes. But imo the most important difference between the two is the shoulder missile mounts versus integrated into the side torsos.

There are unconfirmed reports that I picked up a master grade Wing Zero Custom and SOOOO many extra bits in Akihabara. And also a sex toy that looks like a food processor but that's really a whole 'nother thread. This trip was bipolar as feth. Amazing highs followed by life trying to bone me as hard as possible.

So you're just gonna bone it right back, right? Right?

Hello?

Anyone...?

Oh, before I forget, I know it's not technically dubstep, but it does have wubs. Andit's Metal Gear, so y'know... Go find the whole OST actually, it's all great.

Anyway, that's my contribution to the thread. Enjoy.

Saw the new Captain America in Tokyo cinema, and the Japanese did NOT seem to get any of the jokes. Go figure. Thank you for those wubs liquidjoshi, and yes, I boned life right back with my deluxe tentacle rapelator that I got in Aki. There were SO MANY MODELS! Their hobby shops put ours to shame, catering to all the needs of a serious, SERIOUS modeler. I picked up some clear resin and a few blocks of Oyumaru mold material plus a Gundam Converge figure that will act as a crisis suit slash commander. The great thing (one of them) about these shops is that they were packed with displays showing all the finished kits with loads of custom work, so this time I know I have a crisis suit instead of a broadside.

Like some kind of CutCo convention but with more dubstep. I'm really enjoying seeing my little flag icon change as I move from country to country. I'll have to remember that for future trips. I have had zero free time since I got back. It's been all planes, trains and desk duty all the time. I really want to dig in to all the stuff I bought in Akihabara and start playing around with my new toys, dammit.

The little Gundam Converge figure I bought is a bit of a mixed bag. Some conversion work is going to be necessary to bring it up to my standards, and the arms are going to need to be replaced with Crisis parts. The material of the model is a much softer, rubbery material reminiscent of Mage Knight and the like but with a much higher quality than that old crap. Totally doable. But the arms were really thin at the elbow and that led to them being way too bendy to stand up to the rigors of gaming.

I also made some progress on my big DreadTide thing that I've been building. Got the wires run down through the leg gubbinz and it's attached to its base now, along with some more work on the torso. It's going to need some serious gap filling. And then I'm basically stalled on that one until my Stalker guns come in the mail.

You know what would rock? A Hellhound variant that fired cluster munitions. Large blast, maybe S4 or S5 and AP-, but with Rending or Shred. Sort of like the Wyvern but in a FA slot with shorter range and used in a forward role. I pity anyone who buys an army during this month, since we have the new rulebook coming and that tends to make everything slightly obsolete.

Thanks for stopping in and gibing props Dantay. The build is nowhere near finished, but it's at a stopping point for now.

I did a few test pours of Tamiya clear epoxy resin that I picked up in Japan. I poured the resin into a few overturned 25mm bases in various states to test out drying consistency and whether it would damage paint, resultant transparency and the effect of adding ink to the mixture. The end result of course should be a good filler for the hot tub (did you think I'd forgotten that build?). Those hobby shops in Akihabara are serious business. There were like a dozen different molding/casting products and it was all rather badass.

Okay, the test pours I did came out perfectly, everything I'd hoped for. I did one pour specifically to test the effect of the resin on painted pieces and I am happy to report zero paint dissolution or diffusion into the medium. The addition of blue ink did not alter the resin properties and it dried perfectly. Pics to follow shortly.

Now, I started working on the pool deck and it's quite an onerous project. I'm trying to find something that would be the perfect size for this, a bottle cap of some kind or similar round structure with a bit of depth. I'm not happy with the piece I'd been considering before so it's back to the drawing board. I plan to sink some LEDs into the sides of the pool so the whole thing lights up, but first I need to build an appropriate frame. In theory it's easy, but in practice it's causing problems.

Looking forward to the reveals of the bits you grabbed in Japan. Good to hear your test pours all worked as expected.

For the lights in the pool are you looking at actually sinking them in to whatever container you find, or using a clear container with them attached to the outside? The latter may prevent any issues with resin leaking around portholes cut for the leds.....but may be harder to find a suitable clear container I guess. What sort of diameter pool are you thinking of?

I'm looking at a pool with about the diameter of a 60mm base. I'm going with LEDs sunk into the sides of it through pre-drilled holes sealed with gel superglue. Right now I'm putting aside the pool and focusing on building the legs. I've said more than once that I wanted to do a quad-legged suit for this build, and I'm going with an unbalanced look with heavier legs facing the rear, while the forward legs will be smaller. The idea is that all the weight is shifted backwards and that the heavy rear legs are there to absorb recoil from whatever cannons I mount on this thing. Once I have the legs built and the suit mounted on the base, I can start building the torso/pool apparatus with a better idea of scale and proportions.

Still no pics because work is stupid lol.

Ooh, if you do the Cannons thing, you should model the 'water' in the tub to look like it's sloshing forwards, increasing the 'look' of the whole suit being pushed violently backwards by the force of the cannons.

Sweet Jeebus! Work has been such a pain in the ass lately and stopped me from doing much hobby stuff. That, and an apparent shortage of superglue in the region. Laaaaaaaaaaaaame. BUT! I have rallied from this mess and continued work on the latest giant robot flavored monstrosity:

As you can see the arms are held on with just tack at the moment, so the whole thing can be reposed or repositioned. I'm going to fiddle with those pauldrons a bit to get them just right, and maybe add some kind of plumage to the rear of its shoulders. Got some fairly large guns that are going on those arms when I get the chance, too.

The mech is taking shape now with guns mocked up on the arms and some rocket pods on the shoulders to test out the look. I like them more than I thought I would. Here's a shot without the rockets:

The addition of the rocket pods totally changes the look of the piece. I'm not 100% sold on the battle cannon on its left arm. Thinking about dropping the battle cannon and replacing it with a length of plastic tubing with the heavy psycannon muzzle from the DK kit on the end. I don't have another Punisher cannon or else I'd go for dual gatlings, since the right hand gun came out nicely.

I feel like it needs more armor plating on the lower arms, but I don't know if anything is going to be aesthetically compatible with the Riptide leg plates I've used as pauldrons.

Anyone have any input?

What's your supply of plasticard and tubing looking like? Because you could potentially make yourself a second gatling arm to go along with the first.

Keep the pods, they look awesome.

I don’t know why, but I want to see a large energy weapon on the other arm. Could be too many years playing battletech. Don’t want to rely entirely on ammo-using projectile weapons.

Although symmetrical gatlings would also be cool. As is what you have now, for what it’s worth.

@Anvildude: I'm still a novice at using plasticard, believe it or not. And it wouldn't match 100%, which would drive me crazy.

@Nevelon: I've been thinking along similar lines, but I'm not quite certain what kind of energy weapons I could scrounge up right now. I'm in a tricky place, scale-wise. Too big for infantry weapons, too small for riptide weapons. I might try fitting a Sentinel plasma cannon and see how it looks, then go from there.
