quick question, played against someone who basically used EVERYTHING the model has in its gear (I was not arguing because I just wanted to play, could not care) but for references, when the warscroll says for example "the unit can take X or X" does it mean choose one of those, like for example an empire engineer on mechanical steed, he believes that he can shoot with ALL the gear, I tell him he has to select it if it says "or" or "either" etc...

If the Warscroll says that the unit can take X or Y, you can't take both. The weapons list chart is just a reference chart so that you'll know how to use what you're equipped with. Many units can never be equipped with all of the weapons present in the weapons chart.

The Description section tell you what weapons a model can be equipped with. The Characteristics section tells you how effective those various weapons are. The Characteristics section does NOT tell you what weapons a model can be equipped with.

You could also just point to the dictionary definition of "or".

Definately have to choose your equipment in these circumstances. Be equipped with Dictionary or Warrior Guide means you can't be using both on same opponent.

I play Empire and my General got a hand weapon, shield and pistol...Part because it was my 8th Ed Captain BSB, an I never got any trouble.

I believe the warscrolls were made with the model kits.

My understanding what that the Pistol on the Empire General replaced his Shield. "Many Empire Generals carry a pistol instead of a shield"

Yep, In this case, he can take a shield OR pistol. As well he can take a "sigmarite weapon" or lance to go with those, OR he can take a two-handed weapon.

It's the same thing with Karl Franz... he can take either Ghal Maraz, or a Runefang.
