As title. I recently picked up an Abbadon model and would like to see the big bad on the tabletop, but I'm not really sure how to utilize him. Given his insane dueling and damage capabilites, I feel like he wants to be used in an Assault unit, but none of the options really seem to work with him. Deep Striking Mutilators I thought might be decent for him (relatively small footprint, good toughness, 2+/4++), but that's quite expensive and problematic if he doesn't get into Assault.

What about just sticking him with a unit of 3 Obliterators? He can give them PE(Marines), and then he dissuades anything from Assaulting while they shoot anything that's at a range. Maybe that's a bit of a waste, though, when I could just put a Terminator Lord or Sorcerer there to do the same.

Thoughts?

Put him back in the blister pack and ask for an exchange. I have Abaddon and I have tried it all. Land Raider with what ever retinue is too expensive. DS with anything is bad since no assault. Even putting him on a quad gun giving your oblitz n havocs PE is still bad. I regret buying him.

Sad, really sad. Maybe they will fix him whenever the 7th Edition Codex appears for Chaos... might shelf him for now if he sucks that bad.. i have him but never had chance to play him yet.

Put him back on the shelf...seriously and this comes from an avid Chaos fan. Hes just bad for his points cost (in fact the entire Chaos codex is trash, but I wont get into that here.)

Games Workshop: Ruining Chaos Space Marines since 2007

First they raised prices on the Eldar, and I did not speak out because I did not play Eldar.

Then, they raised prices on the Orks, and I did not speak out because I did not play Orks.

Then, they raised prices on the Nids, and I did not speak out because I did not play Nids.

Then, they raised prices on the Marines, and there was nobody to speak out for me.

Might as well. It's an issue that the main beatstick HQ isn't exactly a great beatstick.

Rather than putting him on the shelf, put him in a dreadclaw with 3 or 4 termis with MoK. An all round av12 skimmer which deepstrikes T1 and has the assault special rule. Deepstrike and then zoom to target T1. Move, disembark and assault T2. Combine with other fast threats. Works well and works consistently.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
This also helps you pick what you want to assault so you can avoid the ~3-4 units in the game which can actually take him.

I feel pretty bad - every time in the past few games I've had him out, Abbadon fails to impress, and I lose the game. He's a lot of points in a single model. Granted, my last game with him I made a LOT of mistakes (stuck him in a squad with a Plasma Gun, then fired the Plasma Gun... so he couldn't charge a Dreadnaught 3" away from him).

That said, he's best used for his Warlord Trait. There's a lot you can do with a 12" bubble of Preferred Enemy(Space Marines). Then you just need to make sure that everything that wants the bubble can travel with him as he heads towards the enemy.

That's easily the worst Warlord trait next to Fear. Even if you wanted it guaranteed, you're paying 265 for it.

Use him in a squad of unmarked marines with ccw disembarking from an escape hatch. It's turn 2-3 assault and a huge threat in the middle of the board. Yep, he's not Kharn and can't chop down an IK but he's not afraid of hard challenges and a lucky s8 shot unlike Kharn.

Or you could drop him and an obli or a min squad of terminators somewhere in the backfield alternatively. But it's quite expensive for a backfield disruption.

Another solid option is abaddon + something choppy inside a dreadklaw. For example, khornates or slaaneshits with an icon - be it termies, chosen or regular marines. Now this guyz are serious business. They have means to get a charge off and to choose the best target and remain a real threat afterwards. Abaddon is not all that easy to deal with when he chooses where to set his foot.

Oh, and get used to going through "CSM sux" every time you post something about them. It's a fancy trend

I wouldn't call it a trend so much as a very sad, sad fact that has gone far too long without being addressed. CSM is awesome, but their current rules indeed do suck. I desperately want to collect CSM but i just can't bring myself to do it until i see some new rules.

If there ever is a new CSM codex abbadon is a likely candidate for some buffing and LOW status. It's going to be interesting to see how they treat him, if they ever get around to it.

I am not sure the problem is with Abaddon directly in as much as it is the codex which lacks an effective means of transporting him into assault.

From the codex, your only real option is to put him in a land raider. Now, you've just sunk 500+ points into two models.

The other option is, as mentioned earlier, the dread claw. I've never used it, but it sounds like it would work.

Abbadon cannot be eaten by the Dreadclaw as he is counted as a Technomancer so no rolls for deamonic possession eating somebody.

18 months. Also, it was highly inaccurate.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

Huh. Could have sworn it was longer.

Still, a lot has changed since then. (And you're right, it wasn't the most accurate thread to begin with)
