Howdy guys. I thought it was well past time I start posting on here. I've been looking for a big old Forum to call my Warhammer and Painting hobby home and I think DakkaDakka is the one to go for above all others. I think this forum is the best and from here on out I'll post WIP pics of stuff that I'm working on but before we get that show on the road I'd like to introduce my thread with some pics of some of my recent work. I feel like in recent times I've improved considerably and some of these are a few models back and I can already see how much more improvement they need.

I am a painter, not a gamer and while I'm not yet I'd love to one day make it to the commission painters world. I've been doing a class with Meg Maples this weekend and in that class I have already learned SOO much it's stupid so my next model should be something grand (hopefully).

So without further time wasting. Here are some of my recent (and what I believe) to be my best works.

The oldest one, my Salamander Librarian. This guys name is Vak'Shal and he has not been a Librarian for a very long time however has risen through the ranks in the Chapter very quickly due to his steadfast nature and his ability to conjure cleansing flame without tiring. Though he is a witch his brothers always feel safer going into battle with him by their side. For this guy I originally painted him with dark black skin the first pic but it wasn't defined enough. I change the skin colour to bluish purple recently and I don't know whether I like it or not so please let me know what you think! He was also my very first attempt at a Space Marine of any kind so I know some of the colors are a bit badly chosen. If I did it again I would definitely do it a little bit differently. This guy is the first and only guy I tried to paint with NMM. I enjoyed it and it turned out quite well but I just don't think NMM is for me, I think TMM is the way to go for me in the future. I just like how it looks better.

Here are the rest of the model from some other perspectives.

Next up is my first and only attempt as an Ultramarine. Ganamaus, he's the kind of fighter that will die soon in battle because he doesn't subscribe so literally to the Codex Astartes like the rest of his Chapter. He believes in some ways the Chapter has lost their ways and he shows his rebelling by placing his markings on the opposite shoulders to the prescribed markings listed in the codex (that was just my way of explaining my stuff up hehe. I was pretty happy with this but I just don't know if the blue I chose is too bright for an ultramarine or for my style which I'm trying to take in the dark and gritty / grimy direction. It's a good start. I'll probably paint another soon with some different colours just to see how I like it darker.

This guy was painted completely 100% with Scale75 paints and they're fantastic but it was kind of an experiment. I love them for so many things but the leather parts could probably use some more sheen or something to give them more of a distinct edge. The Scale 75 metallics are amazing, and I'm trying to learn to paint TMM in an NMM style and this was my first time trying that. You can tell the parts that are not supposed to be so shiny, but perhaps I could try and remove some of the sheen from the "in light" parts as well... because damn they shine like... shiny.

Very happy with the blue's and reds though, and his face. Learning learning all the time.

He still needs his shield insignia which will be a white fleur des lys but I'm still practicing my shield weathering so I'll do that eventually.

Here is Harker. I bought and painted this model because I don't get to do a lot of skin and wanted the practice. First are some WIP shots that show his whole body with out that big arse Bolter blocking the view.

Here is the finished model... not sure how happy I am with it in the end but it's decent enough.

Here is my go at Straken. Pretty happy with this model it's my most recent and probably one of my best.

I really could use a better camera... gah.

Last up is one of the best models I've ever painted (I think anyway) but it's a very subtle model and doesn't stand out very much among my collection.

He's supposed to be a Witch Hunter of Sigmar, converted using a Dark Angels head on the Elven model. The back story of this guy is that he was a human child that was ship wrecked on the shores of Naggaroth as a child and raised and trained from birth by the shadow warriors. Eventually as a grew he moved to Lothern and there he learned about the plight of his kind (he always felt kind of out of place and drawn back to his people and the empire, this is because he is blessed by Sigmar to survive the shipwreck). He sailed back to the Empire with the elves where in he thoroughly thrashed anyone in a fight and eventually was recruited by Volkmar himself into the witch hunter order. He specializes in the undead.

Thanks for looking (and perhaps reading). I really need to buy a better camera but I don't know what to do. Save for a DSLR which are ridiculously expensive or buy a cheaper regular Digi-cam that might do the job but not as well... if I want to be able to sell my models eventually I'm going to need a much better camera with adjustable settings and stuff if anyone can help me with recommendations here please I will be gladly thankful there's just so many makes and models and versions and features to choose from it boggles my mind.

Some pictures of my latest work Logan Grimnar. First time using a DSLR for photography... Some of them are decent, some not. Can't get completely clear pictures yet but I'm learning. Could have used a
Lots of first time tries for me on this one and it's turned out alright. First time trying snow, first time with a large block for a base.
The white photography background was a bad idea so I'm going to have to buy some black paper and perhaps some grey and dark blue for future work.
Feedback would be much appreciated a huge amount of work went into this baby and I'd love to know where I can improve. Anyone with some photography pointers are more than welcome as well!

My first time painting anything bigger than a Space Marine... took a lot longer than I expected but turned out pretty good I think. Feedback would be welcome.

Everything is awesome and very well done! As for your feedback questions, for the librarian I would do more of a purple black than a blue purple so it fits the salamanders a bit better. Logan looks amazing, but drill out his barrels and dont forget to paint the ammo in the storm bolter drum! It is something I forget a lot also.

Nice work on the Nurgle champ. I like the blue skin tones. I really like the green librarian too, awesome idea instead having all blue armour.

So... It's time for a big work dump. I seem to work and work for a while and then take a bunch of proper pictures of as many models as possible, it's a lot of work to take out the DSLR and set up the lighting environment etc to take the pictures because I don't have the room to leave it set up all the time, otherwise I would update more often. So here is a big dump of everything I've been working on recently.

First up is my female Witch Hunter during the sacking of Marienburg. I tried to convey the idea that the city in front of the character was burning which in turn was projecting the orange fire light onto the model from the front. I don't know if that comes across or not (please tell me if you picked that up or not?). I haven't had a lot of experience with OSL so this was another test for me. Instead of painting the OSL light on top of the base painted colours I actually painted the whole model and the colours with the expectation of the OSL from the very beginning. A tough ask for me at my current painting level but I'm really trying to push myself. It definitely could have been done better but again, learning experience and it turned out pretty darn well in the end I think anyway. Lots of little things that could have been done better and I will learn for next time. I hope you like it.

Next up is my take on Vlad Von Carstein from the End Times period (after his resurrection). I tried to use the artwork in the End Times books as a guide for his colours. It was my first time trying to do something very drab and dull and in the end I feel it has worked out sufficiently though it's not fantastic. An excellent excellent learning experience however, lots learned about the use of colours in the mid tones and shadows (which are essentially non-existent here).

Next up is my FW Kharn... this is the oldest painted of the lot so he's not up to the standard of my recent work, so much improvement yet to make.

Then my latest model which is Horus the Warmaster. I really love this model and I want to paint it again so that I can make a few little changes here and there so I'm selling this one on eBay at the moment... My favorite model yet and I believe it's my best paint job as well I believe I captured his evil nature to the extent that I was attempting.

That's it for my updates for today, I'm in the middle of tossing and turning trying to choose whom to paint next which is between Ludwig Schwarzhelm, Kurt Helborg or Lietpold the Black... I just can't CHOOSE *pulls hair out*
