Howdy guys. I thought it was well past time I start posting on here. I've been looking for a big old Forum to call my Warhammer and Painting hobby home and I think DakkaDakka is the one to go for above all others. I think this forum is the best and from here on out I'll post
WIP pics of stuff that I'm working on but before we get that show on the road I'd like to introduce my thread with some pics of some of my recent work. I feel like in recent times I've improved considerably and some of these are a few models back and I can already see how much more improvement they need.
I am a painter, not a gamer and while I'm not yet I'd love to one day make it to the commission painters world. I've been doing a class with Meg Maples this weekend and in that class I have already learned SOO much it's stupid so my next model should be something grand (hopefully).
So without further time wasting. Here are some of my recent (and what I believe) to be my best works.
The oldest one, my Salamander Librarian. This guys name is Vak'Shal and he has not been a Librarian for a very long time however has risen through the ranks in the Chapter very quickly due to his steadfast nature and his ability to conjure cleansing flame without tiring. Though he is a witch his brothers always feel safer going into battle with him by their side. For this guy I originally painted him with dark black skin the first pic but it wasn't defined enough. I change the skin colour to bluish purple recently and I don't know whether I like it or not so please let me know what you think! He was also my very first attempt at a Space Marine of any kind so I know some of the colors are a bit badly chosen. If I did it again I would definitely do it a little bit differently. This guy is the first and only guy I tried to paint with
NMM. I enjoyed it and it turned out quite well but I just don't think
NMM is for me, I think TMM is the way to go for me in the future. I just like how it looks better.
Here are the rest of the model from some other perspectives.
Next up is my first and only attempt as an Ultramarine. Ganamaus, he's the kind of fighter that will die soon in battle because he doesn't subscribe so literally to the Codex Astartes like the rest of his Chapter. He believes in some ways the Chapter has lost their ways and he shows his rebelling by placing his markings on the opposite shoulders to the prescribed markings listed in the codex (that was just my way of explaining my stuff up hehe. I was pretty happy with this but I just don't know if the blue I chose is too bright for an ultramarine or for my style which I'm trying to take in the dark and gritty / grimy direction. It's a good start. I'll probably paint another soon with some different colours just to see how I like it darker.
This guy was painted completely 100% with Scale75 paints and they're fantastic but it was kind of an experiment. I love them for so many things but the leather parts could probably use some more sheen or something to give them more of a distinct edge. The Scale 75 metallics are amazing, and I'm trying to learn to paint TMM in an
NMM style and this was my first time trying that. You can tell the parts that are not supposed to be so shiny, but perhaps I could try and remove some of the sheen from the "in light" parts as well... because damn they shine like... shiny.
Very happy with the blue's and reds though, and his face. Learning learning all the time.
He still needs his shield insignia which will be a white fleur
des lys but I'm still practicing my shield weathering so I'll do that eventually.
Here is Harker. I bought and painted this model because I don't get to do a lot of skin and wanted the practice. First are some
WIP shots that show his whole body with out that big arse Bolter blocking the view.
Here is the finished model... not sure how happy I am with it in the end but it's decent enough.
Here is my go at Straken. Pretty happy with this model it's my most recent and probably one of my best.
I really could use a better camera... gah.
Last up is one of the best models I've ever painted (I think anyway) but it's a very subtle model and doesn't stand out very much among my collection.
He's supposed to be a Witch Hunter of Sigmar, converted using a Dark Angels head on the Elven model. The back story of this guy is that he was a human child that was ship wrecked on the shores of Naggaroth as a child and raised and trained from birth by the shadow warriors. Eventually as a grew he moved to Lothern and there he learned about the plight of his kind (he always felt kind of out of place and drawn back to his people and the empire, this is because he is blessed by Sigmar to survive the shipwreck). He sailed back to the Empire with the elves where in he thoroughly thrashed anyone in a fight and eventually was recruited by Volkmar himself into the witch hunter order. He specializes in the undead.
Thanks for looking (and perhaps reading). I really need to buy a better camera but I don't know what to do. Save for a DSLR which are ridiculously expensive or buy a cheaper regular Digi-cam that might do the job but not as well... if I want to be able to sell my models eventually I'm going to need a much better camera with adjustable settings and stuff if anyone can help me with recommendations here please I will be gladly thankful there's just so many makes and models and versions and features to choose from it boggles my mind.
