What it says on the tin, its my first Herd army. Going for 1000pts to start with

Tribal Berserkers Regiment-155
Tribal Warriors Regiment-125
Tribal Spearmen Troop-90
Tribal Spearmen Troop-90
Tribal Hunters Troop w/ Bows-90
Tribal Hunters Troop w/ Bows-90

Guardian Brutes regiment-140

Beast Pack troop-70

Shaman w/ Heal-150

Total:1000

I figured MSU was the best approach as the Herd doesnt seem real durable, so making my opponent split his fire seemed like a good plan.

I was wondering if you had any Bestigors to get their Crushing Strength skills? A part from the Guardians and the Bane chant on the shamen you might suffer damaging the defence 5+/6+ opposition, thunderous charge is definitely a great assistance but if we get charged the defence is quite poor all around.

Have you thought about a totem? Only 80 points, an additional source of Inspiring as your Shamen will be hard pressed to cover all you units alone, Bane chant to assist taking down the tough guys and it will be the most durable unit in your army (despite the recent reduction in defence). You could drop a unit of Hunters and get a 10 point magic item as well.......plus it could look really cool. I got one recently on eBay from base-x-of-war-shop, check out Their Dark Wood 50mm x 50mm Beastmen unit filler.

I have 10 Bestigors, so i could have a Troop and i was considering a Totem, is it really that good?

Edit: ok yes it is. More Bane Chant is always good (i have no idea how i missed that) Question on Bane chant, lets say i get 3 successes with my Shaman, does that give me Piercing and CS 3?

No, it just gives you the number on the bane chant to changes ton successfully cast the spell, in this case 2 tries for a 4+. It only gives you one boost no matter how many 4+'s you get....but it can still make the difference.

I also try to avoid troops where possible as the nerve value in the Herd is not great, it can only take a couple of arrows hits and you run the chance of breaking, so I would put your spearman in a regiment rather than two troops. Your Berserkers work well in troops, higher numbers of attacks per midel count vs troops of spearman.

Just my thoughts

Ok played my first game last night, 1000 pts Herd vs Undead. I lost but it was fun and i learned some things.

1. Berzerkers go in troops
2. Hunters are lousy shots, so i will probably put them in a Regiment
3. Guardian Brutes are awesome, need more
4. The Battle Totem is sweet, the fact that it doesnt move is not.
5. Shamans are awesome and i want more.

So ya MSUs of Zerkers are the way to go here, i may even just drop the Hunters as they are awful shots.

Try and get some more cheap Inspiring in. 1 source of inspiring per 500 points is most peoples standard that i'v seen. The battle totem is nice, but VERY static don't forget. You're not garunteed to be able to sit right under it.
