The article:

Four high school students have been arrested in the carjacking and kidnapping of a Texas border patrol agent who was vacationing with his family in Florida authorities said.

The agent was confronted at gunpoint in an Orlando hotel parking lot Wednesday night as he was packing up his car. He was forced into the backseat, pistol-whipped, tied-up and robbed of his wallet. His was then held captive for two hours. His harrowing ordeal ended when the carjackers ditched the car at a vacant drug house and fled, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies said Gregory McDonald, 19, Dante Askins, 18, and two other teens, 15 and 16, were taken into custody Friday, MyFoxOrlando reported.

The concerned wife of the abducted agent contacted police through the OnStar vehicle security service, the station said.

“The OnStar representative placed a call to the vehicle and heard someone screaming for help,” Sheriff Jerry Demings said.

The Orlando Sentinel said the carjacking victim was Armando Alaniz, who works for the federal Bureau of Customs and Border Protection, according to court records for the Southern District of Texas.

He needed stitches to close a scalp wound from being pistol-whipped.

Askins, who was picked up Thursday in a stolen car, is a reputed member of the street gang Death Over Mercy, according to the Sentinel. In 2013, he was charged as an adult at 16 with attempted murder in connection with a drive-by shooting targeting a member of the rival Gorilla gang. The charges were eventually dropped, but long prison sentences were handed down to his two co-defendants in the case.

The paper said Askins, the 15-year-old and the 16-year-old have all had previous run-ins with the law.

The 15-year-old turned himself in Friday, accompanied by his parents. Deputies arrested McDonald Friday night.

“These high school students were playing a dangerous game, and they got caught playing a dangerous game, Demings said, according to the Sentinel.

The four face charges of armed kidnapping, carjacking and battery with a firearm.

Though I don't think this thread will last long on the first page of OT.

Perps committed a crime, and look likely to pay the price. Don't think there is anyway we can spread this any thinner.

I'm not sure how much it really means, but I hope it shows there's at least some sense running through that family; even if the kid has already had dealings with the police.

The part that caught my eye was that the one kid had bee up on charges for attempted murder and had them dropped....well that and hes 19 and about to START his senior year of high school.

I'm fairly blase about such things. Its not unique or that noteworthy really.

Glad the CBP officer is alright though that's going to leave an interesting story on how he got the head scar later down the road

Agreed, iwas thinking it was like the guy that attempted to jack those 2 under cover cops but they actually did it. This is an agent, on vacation so just looked like a tourist

That's the sad thing in this day and age. Kids that age committing such a serious felony isn't noteworthy.

Obviously the plunging rates reflect the fact that they are simply shooting unarmed minority teenagers in the streets now rather that sending them to jail

For that matter, I would expect you knew that by age 8. It doesn't change the fact that these kids are wicked young and are already pretty much flushed with the choices they are making unless something major happens to turn them around.

Hope the kids enjoy their jail time. They were fully aware of committing a crime and are looking at a well-justified time in prison, likely a few years.

I'd bet the 18-19 year olds are looking at way more than a few years.

You've got armed kidnapping, aggravated assault, carjacking, plus whatever using a gun in the commission of the crime tacks on.

The 15 and 16 year olds might get away with a few years if they are charged as minors.
