Hello guys, in this post i would like to ask you guys a question. I've been sculpting a custom Tyranid model for my army. I always wanted a tyranofex for my force but didn't have the capital to do so. I started this model a couple of days ago , i was going for a tyranofex if he was bipedal instead of walking on all fours and on his belly. Its slowly turned into something different , it now looks like a giant hive tyrant or swarmlord. I haven't sculpted the arms or head yet and im still working on the carapace. Im kinda stuck now and i was wondering what you guys think would look coolest . Should i stay on the idea of making this thing a custom tyranofex or making this my version of the swarmlord. Give me some ideas or should i make this thing a unit of my own imagination, thanks
ps. ive included one of my gaunts for size comparisons

Im hoping to have it finished sometime in the next week, now the painting is a different story. My sculptures are usually of movie characters and stuff like that. This is my first attempt at a fully sculpted Warhammer 40 k peice. I just finished "Bane" from the Dark Knight Rises

I've never thought about making casts of my sculptures that would be cool to experiment with

That. Is. Great. I think you should add in the support talons, as if he still needs to be stable. I think that would look really cool with the bipedal position. Also, maybe a unique head?

First that looks awesome. I think it could make for a great Swarmlord though it is really big. That being said it looks to be about the correct size for a Dimachaeron.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

I never thought of making it into a dimachaeron im not familiar with that models rules but have seen the model now i got some serious thinking to do

the support talons idea suggested by LeCacty would help with the weight . Im scared the model will be extremely front heavy when i add the arms and head

Sorry, forgot to ask, what are you using? Is it clay or...? (I'm hoping it's something super easy to sculpt so I can look good too! ) This is really great.

LeCacty- Im using super sculpy , i got it at walmart for like five bucks. its oven bake and holds fine details very good. Its really easy to use and forgives a lot . Ive used the really expensive stuff in the past and never really noticed a difference in quality in my sculptures. I've always believed that its all up to the sculptor, buying expensive tools and using higher quality clay takes away from the experience. I like making my own tools and using the basics. it forces me to do more with less.
ps, if you like sculpting LeCacty just keep practicing and never let anyone tell you that your work looks good or bad , if you put put genuine effort into your art, ts always a masterpiece. Also when sculpting Tyranids if you mees up you can just say its a new biomorph ,LOL

Look at the Dimachaeron (if that's spelt right I'm going to be very impressed with myself) from Forge World. It is looking like that model, so a few alterations or weapon options and most people will likely be happy to play it as that thing instead of a Tyrannofex. Still might be too big, but since I haven't seen one in person I am just guessing.

I also don't think folks will care if it's slightly bigger considering the obvious effort put into it. Skill, talent and effort are more important than 'official rules' in most cases.

Yeah i kinda got carried away with size, The vents on the carapace really make this thing towering. i got around to reading the rules for the Dimachaeron Im really considering going in that direction

I'm afraid I'm having quite a bit of trouble seeing what's going on in those pictures. Might be worth using a whiter lamp or daylight.
