...from Warlord today;

Warlord Games is absolutely delighted to have secured the licence to produce a miniatures game based on the BBC's enormously popular TV series, Doctor Who (back on BBC One on September 19th!). So delighted we might just have a celebratory jelly baby.

As lifelong Doctor Who fans ourselves, we are extremely pleased to have the chance to bring this iconic series to the tabletop with a game system you all know and love as well as the official range of miniatures to complement it.

The licence covers not just the latest series of Doctor Who but encompasses all of the Doctors, their companions and their foes. So, expect to see Sea Devils as much as Weeping Angels, Leela as much as Martha Jones, and a long, brightly coloured scarf as much as a fez (fezzes are cool, by the way...).

We'll bring you news, previews and work-in-progress in the coming weeks and months. Keep an eye on the Warlord Games website and weekly email newsletter for further details.

We've also created a dedicated Doctor Who Miniatures Game website where you'll find more information as we get it.

Does anyone here have new information or sneak peak pics of any of the miniatures? Seems they haven't released anything new since making the announcement.

I wonder if this will effect the legality of the fan based DWMG thats been around a long time...

For the life of me I cannot imagine how the mechanics will play out that reflect the property. Ingenuity, Deus Ex Machina, pacifism (by degrees), etc... will all have to be represented... somehow. :-p

There's a couple of off-brand manufacturers like Heresy and Crooked Dice that will be smacking their lips at this. Time to shift some models!

I hope they use something similar to Pulp Alley though. I liked the Doctor Who Miniatures Game, but then I tried Pulp Alley and the game-play is so much better for narrative play.

On the bright side, Dalek miniatures!

Or they'll do what they did when Prodos' Alien vs Predator was announced; stop producing those minis because they're now more likely to get into trouble.

As to the legality of the Doctor Who Miniatures Game, it won't affect it - it'll still be infringing copyright now, like it always has. It might make it more likely to get the authors into trouble, though.

I haven't played any of the fan based Doctor Who games but I will likely buy this as soon as it comes out. Worst case scenario is that the gameplay is lame and you can use the miniatures to play using the fan based rules online.

Scotland, but nowhere near my rulebook

I'm not sure the existing DWMG infringes anything - I believe Crooked Dice got the license to make it.

"The DWMG is an unofficial free product". So apparently not. The BBC just had more important things to worry about, it seems.

If they boxes of cheap plastic Daleks and Cybermen I'm in. If everything is metal I'm not interested in spending that much.

Hmm, this might be just what I need to get my wife into gaming. She absolutely loves Dr. Who, she likes painting models, but she doesn't care for any of the fluff or aesthetic of a lot of the games out there.

Just buy some rubber sewing thimbles and stick a pin with the flared blob on one end in each. You'll save yourself money and be true to the original spirit and practice of making Daleks in the 60's.

No, I want GW-quality Daleks that I can paint bronze. I'll settle for Warlord-quality.

I've got hundreds of the plastic ones that came free with the Doctor Who Adventures magazine. There's probably loads of 'em on Ebay, but they're the new-style Daleks.

Black Tree Designs are still selling their Dr Who range. I'm not sure what's going on with the licensing there.

The Dr Who magazine daleks are pretty good for the price, though it is hard to get completely remove line between the two parts
