Hi,

How's the Astra Miliitarum performing in 7th ?

I had some local game against different enemies, and i found the AM to be able to deal with most things, but not to be able do really win/dominate, for example, tau & eldars are giving me troubles.

Is the Astra Militarum performing well at GT ?
What unit/synergy is good in 7th for AM ?

I have my own opinion but am lacking more data to be able to really know and not just guess.

What unit/synergy is good in 7th for AM ? CCS and PCS with units on infantry, but like the rest of the codex, it's mediocre at best.

Are they getting beaten by everyone or are they good but not great enough to beat cheesy games ?

Isn't there any ally that could help them being more efficient ?

Is there really no hope at same level of skill for the two players ?

It's punishment for serving the false god dead emperor...

(Check out Imperial Armour 13 or Imperial Armour 5 Siege of Vraks Second Edition for a different way of playing a guard army, not necessarily more competitive though, that's up for debate as its not a commonly played army list)

Chaos awaits your service...

Basically, people agree to say IG is a part of the middle/inferior tier of codexes and they rarely appear in tournaments as monocodexes builds. Given the fact our codex is 6th Ed, we don't have fancy stuff like decurion-style formations while many units are useless or too pricey or both. Some builds are still interesting but the real way to get something good is to add SM, IK or Inquisition allies. Imperial allies combinations is the best way to give your IG a boost and go toe-to-toe with more powerful codexes. FW IG stuff is also a very good way to have some suprising stuff on the table, since few people know what Vulture or Artillery Carriages can do.

As an example, I play against Eldar very often and Ordo Xenos stuff, Inquisitorial Henchmen and Deathwatch Marines supported by FW artillery are wonderful to tear the alien into pieces.

- 22nd Rhayé Storm Division : 2000points (Spetsnaz-themed IG)

- Ordo Xenos : ~700pts

If both players are at the same skill level, you could happily win against:

-Orks
-Assaulty or overly-elitist Marines
-Blood Angels (who are both asssaulty and overly-elitist)
-Non-competitive Necrons
-Most Tyranoids
-Chaos Marines

But you'd probably get quad pwned by:

-Daemons
-Daemonkin
-Semi or Fully Competitive Necrons / Eldar
-Space Marines with DS capacity or high mobility
-Knight Titans
