I personally love Stormravens. I use its assault vehicle special rule to my advantage when using blood angels, which some people believe is not a good idea (Putting assault troops in a Stormraven). What is your take on them? And how do you use them in games?

I think they cost too much to be REALLY good, but are pretty okay. I like sticking BA cc scouts in them. They get the protection and benefits of an assault vehicle, and if it crashes, I didn't lose a crippling amount of points.

I have found taking one can really good and well worth its points. It combos well with one or two Talons.

Overcosted garbage. It's not on the battlefield long enough and its dakka is not worth 200 pts.

It's a Nay without support, okay with support. They make better gunboats than transports, just because hull points suck.

Define "support".

I would say support means more fliers, and things that can take down enemy anti-air.

Last few games I've stuffed mine full with a 10 man Tactical Squad and a Frag Cannon Furioso and it's done great (mostly because I had the models painted and wanted to get some use out of the spent hobby time). It comes on the board, shoots up whatever high priority target I feel needs to get wrecked, and then jink away the incoming fire, as I'm planning on dropping to hover mode the next turn anyway. The Furioso gets to flame on and assault whatever needs tied up or destroyed, and the tacticals usually shoot something off an objective and score it themselves (or work on it until they go to Tac marine heaven).

I expected it to go poorly in both games, but was surprised at how little jinking the stormraven actually needed to do. Flyers...they may be good...

I love mine filled with Sternguard and a Dred Tooled up for Close in work. I also use the Landing Pad with 'Ready for take off to get it on the board turn one.

I carry infantry in mine. If my opponent has strong AA then I paratroop them the turn the gunship arrives. If you're up against an army with some fliers try to go second so you can shoot theirs to make them jink... You can easily target two with Machine Spirit.

Even as a gun boat its still often worth going into hover with. Say it turns up T2, T2 & 3 zoom at something and shoot it up, T4 drop into hover, pull a 180 and drop behind a vehicles rear armour. Saves the Raven flying off next turn and wasting another turn of being unable to shoot too.

Yep, and for some reason people always seem to forgot that doing that is even an option. They just assume your flyer is going to continue to ZOOM and move accordingly to get out of it's potential firing arcs.

I dropped down into Hover and did a 180 to get the rear shot on a vehicle that a guy had parked pretty much underneath my Stormraven and he was like "Oh yeah...crap." Worse yet, he was also a Blood Angels player and should have known better.

I got a sweet melta shot into the rear armor of a LR with that tactic.

Yes I have seen it all the time. Most people look at it as a A-10 with Transport Capability when it is more of a Hind Gunship. There are game I never use it in its Flier mode.

I loved my raven, then I acquired a fire raptor. If I had something I wanted to transport currently I'd field it again but right now I don't so the raptor wins out.

How does the Raven work as an assault transport?

Same way a landraider does. Only difference is that if the SR zooming, then you can't assault after disembarking.

Or did you mean how effective is it?

Not so great anymore, overcosted without enough dakka to make it a real gunboat

Effectiveness.

I feel like a turn three charge is best you can get but maybe. Wrong.

Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum

Most people prefer the Fire Raptor to it. FW permitting anyway.

I am going to get one and maybe drop a Librarian Dreadnought from it. Would be funny to play imo.

I have one, but have not fielded it without first magnetizing the wings, but when I do, it is basically just to combat other Air, and drop off a cheap unit of Scouts tossed out the back (with their move through cover to survive the fall).

Effectiveness hasn't been tested, but I play a pretty relaxed Meta scene in our LGS and after utilizing Heldrakes for so long I'm looking forward to an actual gunship for my Loyalist army.
