So I want to take spawn in a top tier tournament list that will be hard to beat. How do I make a spawn star the most gross thing in the board and deal with the amount of shooting on the table these days? Do I need one if the other chaos books aside from the CSM codex to help? Black Legion?

Nurgle Spawn seem the most resilient. And a sorceror with spell familiar on a bike? And then Be'lakor to garauntee invis?

What else? All Spawn tactica gratefully received. I've built them and need to find away to play these wobbly, wriggly, MrTickles on the battlefield...

I often take a Juggerlord with AoBF and a ton of renegade spawn. They are far more durable point for point than Nurgle spawn and are a staple of my Renegade armies. Problem is that they only come in units of 3, so no Spawn Star, rather a Spawn Swarm. To remedy this the Juggerlord switches units when his unit is wiped or starts running out of wounds, he also has a secomd spawn unit in front of his to be granting them a 5+ cover unless they wipe them first.
Another neat tactic I've found is to run the Unending Host (only tried this twice), and keep the spawn behind renegade infantry, this grants them a 3+ cover but they do lose their speed in 'keeping formation', only thing is you can only do this with 2 spawn units as the UH only has 2 elite slots. Therefore I've taken 2 Giant Spawn as well, I would have taken 3 but only own 2 of the giant skaven mutated things to represent them. For 80pts they are a total steal since their only weakness is the fact they are T6 with only a 4+, and the 3+ cover really helps mitigate this somewhat. Bear in mind that they are a lot slower than normal spawn though.
The Purge allows you to take 18 spawn for a mere 330pts in 6 units of 3. I only own 12, but would love to see what it is like to run 18!

5 Spawn as an HQ escort, preferably Invisible. Smaller units of 3 Spawn to obj. hunt, vehicle hunt, and tarpit.

Rather than a death star, I prefer to take them in multiple units. Usually it's 3x5 Spawn (2x Nurgle, 1x Unmarked), with a character attached to each (1 PF/LC Nurgle biker lord possibly with the Crimson Slaughter goodies, 1 Juggerlord with AoBF on the unmarked spawn, and usually either another Nurgle biker lord on the last, or a sorcerer).

It's not really a death star but each unit clocks in at 320-375 points, which is more than reasonable.

Tier 1 is the new Tactical.
