Okay, I've been playing space marines for 5 years. First Ultramarines and now Salamanders. Mainly I play orks, but I like to take a break every once in a while. I was wanting to take a LoW with my Salamanders. Basically a Knight titan, is my only choice right now. Calgar is good, but he could never join any of my Salamander squads. Those I propose that the Terminus Ultra be a Lord of War option for Space marine chapters. Generic option that any chapter can take. This tank is designed to take on other LoWs. Anyone else agree?

Armies:
The Iron Waagh: 10,000+ 8th Edition Tournament Record: 4-7-1
Salamanders: 5,000 8th Edition Tournament Record: 4-2
Ultramarines: 4,000
Armored Battle Company (DKoK): 4000
Elysians: 500
Khorne Daemons: 2500

The issue I have with Space Marine LoW's is more fluff-based than anything else. Space Marines are meant to be fast response strike teams, dropping in from orbit and gutting the enemy before they know what's happening. LoW normally implies some gigantic monstrosity or super-tank that I would imagine takes more time to land/deploy/setup.

In-game rules for a Space Marine LoW? The Knight Titan already fills that role pretty well, but like you said it's basically you're only choice. If you wanted to toy with the idea of allies there's tons of options for Imperial forces.

I feel like the Terminus Ultra's lack that "bam, here's my huge tank" feel. They're still a Land Raider chasis, albeit with some Las Cannons or 6 stuck to em. I would hope a LoW to be more intimidating size-wise, given the Force Org slot they have.

If you read the fluff bit that is with the Terminus Ultra, it is only deployed when a legion has to fight enemy force that is using a Super heavy tanks, walkers, or gargant creatures. I think it would be fitting. Could just give it 6 hull points and make it a super heavy tank. The problem I have is the current Space marine LoW in the codex is Calgar. Which is great if you an Ultramarine player, but if you are any other chapter, you are SOL. Guess you will be taking a Knight titan, thunderhawk, warhound, or a Reaver.

I mean, that's still 5 options for a LoW. More than most factions.

I'm more concerned with LoW's due to the game shifting to 40K Apocalypse. It's like an arms race right now in 40K play, and GW is the smiling arms dealer. Armies are getting larger, units are getting bigger and titans are becoming more and more commonplace.

It's like you have to either be content with Kill Team size games, or expect a titan/wraithknight/stompa/etc in every list. What happened to 10 man squads and a few transports?

Back in my day 10 man squads only had 9 men! And our Bolters fired 6"! 6" I say! And that's the way we liked it, dang nabit!

Personally, my stompa does not come out to play unless my opponent brings a cheese army or Apoc only. Other than that, I just build a normal list.

Really this is what people mean when they say SM players complain while they really have nothing to complain about. You've got one of the best super-heavies in the game (ignoring FW stuff) but then you complain that it's the only choice you have.
I play CSM and the only option I've got is a Khorne lord of skulls (again ignoring FW models). I'd take an imperial knight over that anyday because it is just a better model for less than 1/2 the points.

If we include FW stuff, you probably have the most choice out of any army out there save for IG with their gazillion baneblade variants.

You don't have to be happy when you lose, just don't make winning the condition of your happiness.

I feel you DaPino, I'm a CSM man myself.

Kind of what I was trying to get at in my suggestions, there's already 5 solid choices for SM's and most other factions get 1.

I've always found working within limitations more fun/challenging so the lack of LoW's doesn't bother me too much. But then again, I would not complain if GW released some new LoW for Imperial factions.

Not advocating this, but I think I saw fluff or stories where Space Marines have had Baneblade variants. Not the Fellblade, real ones. I think someone mentioned an audio drama or novel with an Ultramarines Shadowsword and one of the 30k Primarchs (Perturabo, I think) coming in another Shadowsword.

Obviously if you wanted to go that route it would take a hell of a lot of tweaking, do have ideas for how that might work if anyone actually cared.

Don't believe me? It's all in the numbers.

An ultras a godhammer that OD'd on lascannons and that's about it.

I'd rather a loyalist kytan. Put one and two together and call it Pacific Rim.

A Land Raider with 2x Twin-Linked Lascannons on the rear sponsons, a TL Lascannon on the front mount and 2x individual Lascannons on the forward sponsons. Very good, but has a minuscule chance of destroying itself.

Rules were released with the original edition of Apocalypse, re-released with Warzone: Damocles(?) as an option to take Sergeant Chronus in.

^Kinda screws over non-Smurf players though, doesn't it?
