I'm starting a new Crimson Slaughter amy and am wondering which type of fiend I should take. I am planning ti field 2 of these guys, but Im wondering which would be better. I'll take a look at the pros and cons I see with each one and feel free to comment as you please.

Forgefiend
Pros
-Potentially 3 S8, AP2, blasts
-8 S8, AP4 shots
-Very good counter to GK Nemesis deep striking terminators and SM drop pod spam and really any Alpha Strike

Cons
-Somehwat Overcosted
-Let down by the short range of its ecoplasma cannons

Maulerfiend
Pros
-More mobile, it can move up to 12" in the assault phase and has move through cover
-Fleet means it can easily get into combat
-Will comfortably destroy vehicles. buildings and most infantry

Cons
-Only WS/I3, making it highly vulnerable to dedicated assault troops
-Although it's not as fast, a Helbrute can do the same job and hold its own in close combat against dedicated assault troops with a power scourge

Depends on the rest of your list really.
Do you need more tank hunters if light in that area or a fast board control threat? Mauler.
If you are shooting light and need to sit back a bit more - FF.

What else you got?

I'd go with the FF so. The Mayhem pack will do a decent job in place of the Mauler? And you're light elsewhere in firepower (bar the HDs which need to be reserved.).
Push the FF up behind the Rhinos as they move forward for cover.

I would favour the mauler. The mayhem pack should give you turn 2 av12 saturation and short range anti tank. This combos well with a mauler rush.

Look, no one is saying the Forgefiends is bad, but the Forgefiends is really fething bad and shouldn't exist! XD lol

No reason to beat around the bush, the Forgefiend is over costed, under performs, has terrible loadouts no matter what you take on it and can have its roll fulfilled by other cheaper more reliable models.

For instance. Sure, 8 str8 shots coming from a mobile gun platform sounds great, but at bs3 your only hitting with 4 of those shots statistically. At that point what are you trying to hurt? An armored vehicle? A monstrous creature? For 175 points you'd expect more punch from something. For 140 points you can get a trilasPredator. Which will hurt said vehicle more, has a chance to explode it and ignores any armor saves a monstrous creature may have.

The Maulerfiend is amazing. For 125-135 points you can effectively reduce a models attacks by 2 just by throwing this thing at it base 2 base. I've killed many O knights these days running my 5 mauler, 2 lasher + 3 magma cutter fiends. It sucks that they are generally considered terrible due to having WS3 and I3, but they can still be effective. No one knows what was going through GWs mind when these things came out

Life: An incomprehensible, endless circle of involuntary self-destruction.

As an opponent of the CSM in the "long war" , I vote for Maulerfiend. My worst defeated game was that my opponent bring 2 Maulerfiend and one "used as distraction" Vindicator, 3 units of 5 Nurgle Spawns escorting one tooled up Nurgle Biker Lord. Which most units made into assault in T2 due to seized inititive and quickly slaughtered my Ultramarine with almost no losses. Not even my "semi CM smashbane" hold this tide for long.
Original I thought it were those Spawns dealt me the defeat because that was 45 T6 wounds.. But after further reviewing the game, I found it was the two Maulerfiends did the most killing, which killed the CM smashbane and his command squad within 2 rounds of combat. Then killing the backfield Devastator squad without getting a shot, then the Ironclad Dreadnought and the Stormraven which just get into hover to deploy the dread. So after that game, whenever I saw a Maulerfiend on field, I send turn 1 Droppod melta squad or Droppod Melta dreadnought right into its back. I know if I don't desteoy it in T1, it will get into assault T2 and will make short work to most all of my army. I won't concern that much if that was a forgefiend, because I can just hide my Marines in ruins when deploying. But against Maulerfiend you just have no where to hide from T2 with its 12inch movement and fleet, S10 AP2 attacks and bonus S8 AP1 melta hit. It must be dealt out in T1 if you face it and unfortunately going 2nd.

Maulerfiends are actually a good unit as opposed to the forgefiend and helbrute

The forge fiend has it's moments (though they are few and far between), especially if you're taking Crimson slaughter and have access to Div for prescience, but with your list, Maulers are the way to go.

I am using Crimson Slaughter, but my Sorceror is going with their better possessed and is equipped with the prophet of the voices relic, which makes him a possessed, meaning he can use Malefic Daemonology normally, which I fully intend to do.

What's left of Cadia

I prefer maulerfiends. Now i don't play chaos, but I've fought them. I play marines, and I fear maulerfiends a lot more than forgefiends

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes
TheEyeOfNight- "Ordo Xenos reports that the Necrons have attained democracy, kamikaze tendencies, and nuclear fission. It's all tits up, sir."
Space Marine flyers are shaped for the greatest possible air resistance so that the air may never defeat the SPACE MARINES!
Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum
