Since I own an IK army and nearly everyone is intimated to fight them. And when they do fight, they borrow 2 WK from the store .

I was thinknig what if I buy Hasbro toy robots of the same size and proxy them as my knights They would seem less intimidating and are laugh able. At an extreme I was looking to use Megatron toys. Sadly the good ones are $60-130.

I'm currently looking into running a Ik army. Was thinking of having a theme to lighten the mood. I really want to do a steam punkd one.
Tell people that your bringing an IK army in advanced so they may tailor just for you.

Have you considered stuffed animals? Fear the plush.

I have two MG 1/100 Gelgoogs and a MG 1/100 Dom I use to play as two Paladins and an Errant. People complained that my $120 models did not represent the hobby, so I said, "okay", and went back to fielding my regular Errant with a bunch of Nemesis DreadKnights. Serves them right for me trying to make the game a little bit easier on them.

Honestly just tell people in advance and ask them to list tailor, otherwise they'll be stuck with literally 100% useless units and that's not fun for them

Once in an apocalypse game we used a full-size Voltron (like 18" tall at least) as a proxy for a Warhound Titan.

Unfortunately I was not present for this game, but my friends still talk about it to this day. In a different apocalpyse game a bizarre stack of paper-plates, cardboard tubes and WAFFLES was used as a Silver Tower of Tzeentch. It was gradually eaten over the course of the game when it was damaged.

Personally once used an Insecticon, Kickback, as a proxy for the Eldar Avatar.

My Tyranid player friend lacked a Myscetic Spore for a long time (this was back when they were still called Myscetic Spores of course...) we had a designed coffee mug as the Myscetic Spore when he would come over for games.

Oh I thought of one more I should add for fun. It wasn't a model though.

My friends got together to play and realized that somehow NONE of them had a scatter die, and they couldn't find one anywhere. So they tried to figure out what they could do. One of them found a screw on the floor. That legendary screw became... THE SCREW OF CHANCE!!!

So instead of rolling a scatter die, they'd spin the SCREW OF CHANCE (they also rolled a normal die so if it came up as a 5-6, it counted as a "Hit" and the screw was not necessary.) but they reported that the Screw of Chance was infinitely more fun to use than the scatter dice.

Actually, my partner once used an absolutely horrifying giant snowman mug I sculpted when I was nine as a stand-in for a Monolith while we were visiting my parents.

The cardboard Killacan is still an official GW model, legal in all GW games of 40k.

As long as you convert the models and paint them perfectly its all right. I love super heavies that are made of cardboard or toys and look just as good as regular models.

But I don't like to play against unpainted toys, soda cans or stuffed animals.

Ah, I see. So the only way to play an IK army is to give your opponent every advantage. I know they already use them, but you should buy 5 wraith knights for your opponents to add to their army when they play you as well. I also propose that you make a houserule to nerf the Knight's stats to AV 10 on each facing and only a 6++ Ion Shield save.

When you do all of these things, maybe then you can play a fun & friendly game of 40k.

I wish it was okay for ME to ask my opponents to tell me their lists ahead of time, so I could tailor for it. That way I wouldn't show up with useless units ever... but for some reason people only expect that of Knight players.

I was also thinking Megazords and Voltrons.

I'd actually be pretty insulted if someone showed up with that as their army. Exception of course if there was a LOT of care and effort in conversions. But especially the stuffed animal idea from above, I'd think they're just taking the piss out of the work I've put into my army. "Oh look at how little I've done and let's see how many of your models I can remove'...

Unless it's legitimately impressive, I wouldn't find the humor in it. But I am one of those players that just doesn't find it fun to fight a Knight army so maybe I'm not the appropriate audience.

No one takes the piss during a 40K game! That's why Orks have to suck, because if someone is having fun with their army AND doing well then it's bs.

Having fun is fine, as are toilet roll or shampoo pattern super heavies if constructed and painted right. Using flying rodent gak insane or obscure old but fun rules is fine. Brining silly armies like 100+ separate servitors + 2 space wolves characters is fine. Showing up with a handful of stuffed animals as a "fun surprise " when I cleared my day to play a game of 40k, just feels like an insult and a waste of at least the day. Every transport damages my army,I will have to spend a few hours repairing stuff in advance and after the transport and I would probably have spend a few evenings that week painting my newest creations just for that battle. When I go trough all that I expect the other player to at least pretend he is put any effort in his army.

Me and my friends use coins, paper, boxes, star wars prepainted minis from years ago ect.

I use urine sample cups, skittles, bottle caps and skin flakes. I don't actually own any miniatures.

Proxies aren't fun. Poor title
